In a confined, unventilated place? It's a console. Most consoles have to be put into a TV stand, a shelf, or a cabinet. Sorry if I'm missunderstanding your POV of what a small confined space is.

I seriously doubt that sky. That cooling system is the best I have ever seen, the heat pipes, the massive heat sync, it will stay cool for ever. It's called using high quality parts.

If you checked your facts, you would have found that the TGS over heatings were caused by the fact that the consoles were all in a confined, low ventilation space where the heat of all of the PS3s together combined with the hot lights shining down on them caused fluke over heatings. If you checked your facts, you would also see that all of the magazines/websites that have their PS3s right now, say that the system runs warm, as apposed to the 360's scorching hot. Many websites including engadget have stated that the PS3 blows warm air through the vents not hot, much cooler than the 360.

You HONESTLY believe that crap about TGS? Last time I checked, a huge, air-conditioned convention floor wasn't "confined" or had "low ventillation". And I doubt that every PS3 will have a big, air-conditioned room to sit in, especially since Sony's target audience is a bunch of college kids living in small dorms with no air conditioning. Besides, we didn't even hear about the overheating problems on the 360 until after its launch, PS3 will be the same.

I don't know about huge, air conditioned rooms, but last time *I* checked a display enclosure qualifies as being small and confined. Add a good light, as many display cases or enclosures tend to have, and suddenly XPC's description doesn't look so far off.

Now, its not like I actually, you know, like XPC to any extent at all. Quite to the contrary! However, his explanation was sensible, and your response tasted a lot like adolescent fanboyism.

Big war going on here. Well, even though the PS3 may have a giant enemy fan, thrid party providers will save the day. Remember the NYKO Intercooler? Exactly. Then 360 got better...from what I know. I bought my 360 two-three weeks ago, and it's on a shelf, with a wee bit of space. I touch it, it's pretty cool. It hums loud when the game preliminary spins up, and I feel the underside...just a little bit of warm air. PS3 is not a fluke by anymeans. The thing is probably a technological achievement, being able to create such a power system, and make it 'silent' yet heat-savvy. We can't say anything now guys...just wait a bit longer. Also...when you say that the plastic melted...? The body is aluminum from what I see/know (but I don't know a lot about the current gen). Plastic melts at relatively high temperatures, say...a soldering iron. Am I to believe that the heat given at the TGS, was enough to emulate a soldering iron?

Adolescent fanboyism? Quite the contrary. I would actually love to own a PS3 someday when the price goes down, and have the Xbox 360 on the top of my list of things to grab after Christmas (Gears of War looks fantastic). While XPC's description is entirely feasible, I don't think it's wise in defending an obviously faulty console so staunchly. And by the same token, I could call you both Sony fanboys, seeing as your blatant devotion to a product with some evident problems falls along those lines. So think up your argument next time before you start making accusations, mmkay?

Wii has a small fan (it better be quiet) inside it. The vents for it are on the back of the system. The fan will run while the system is on, but when its in standby mode (wiiconnect24), there will be no fan running, so as to keep it completely silent while "off".

Well, the Nyko Intercooler has had some problems of its own.

I couldn't really tell from the video, but are there direct vents in the case right above (below) the fan? It looks like the fan faces the bottom of the system, so having vents there and standing the system on end could be a huge benefit over having it laying flat and using only the side vents.
