I'm so happy! Think of the possibilities, with all of that power.

Use 7 CPU cores for SMP. No I'm not really suprised about this for two reasons. The first is that Sony already offered a home-brew for the PS2, and really they sold the kit out (even though it was $500) in a matter of months. Two is that the PS3 is being sold as a gaming PC, running Linux, to not offer a programming option would only look bad. An ammendment to that is that the gaming indestries want people to get into programming early, they want them to know about the current or next generation hardware, that way they can adapte to it easier and have more people with more abilities and idea to make games.Triton wrote:what can the ps3 do that a decent pc cant. yea i know its not the same thing but whatever
As far as Sony goes it's a good idea. Their machine is the only one that is not even close to a PC equivelent (360/Wii possibly programmed for on G5 Macs) so this is a means of getting dev kits out there.
With this kind of option I'm begining to seriously consider the idea of a PS3. Kind of moving it into the number two position, right behind the 360 (once the 360 adds support for PSO).

I am a geek.
there is only one problem with the homebrew scene on the ps3 the power of the ps3 needs a large quantity of quality programmers to complete a decent project... so the quality would not be top notch (as always) but there is a possibility to run a mariad of emulators...from the oddessy to the cube I say...

Well, nobody's hacked the Xbox Live Arcade yet. At least I don't think so; I don't have an Xbox 360 and my Xbox 1 is modded, so I can't access Live.ganonbanned wrote:yeah, I mean Im sure thers someway to hack the virtual consolegamer2 wrote:TThe PS3 is just trying to get the hackers support with the console, but Im sure they wont go with it if there is nothing to hack.. if there is, cant wait until someone finds it out.
I don't really see why hackers would want to hack the virtual console. I mean, it's not like there isn't already a free and easy way to get those games on the internet.
As far as homebrew goes, I really like the homebrew on Xbox 1, and I've heard the PSP homebrew is awesome as well, and same for Dreamcast. It took hackers about a year to first hack the Xbox to run unsigned code; Sony's just giving the PS3 homebrew scene an early start.

I think it's simply a smart marketing strategy - give more people more reasons to buy it. I don't know how many more sales they'll get for that, but I don't see anything wrong or negative about it. Plus it's good PR for the "hacker/nerd" crowd.

maybe it's just so hard to get power out of ps3 without the official devkit that sony doesn't care. my bet is that 'homebrew' only works on a small chunk of the system resources and it's mainly hype to try and get people to spend more on a game console then rent. my first reaction to any sony news is that it's 75% hype and is really *bad* news spun to look like great news.
Or maybe they've calculated that when they fight homebrew they're directly fighting their fanbase. I can't even say that without laughing. sony doesn't care about fanboys, or they never would have shut lik-sang down.
