Intel Quad Core?

Well I don't really know that much about processors but I can say that I'm not an Intel fanboy. More AMD like...

But anyway, I'm going to this event called Gamexpo where you'll be able to play Wii, PS3, XBox 360 etc... (yes that's special cause we're only receiving the Wii on Dec 8 and the PS3 in March...)

And they are also going to present the new Intel Quad Core EXTREME QX6700. That might not have been so interesting, but it's supposed to be the first wordwilde release...

Well, considering even the lowest end dual-core intel smacks around some higher end AMDs, a quad core seems interesting

I read in PC World (magazine) that the quad-core chip isn't all that much better than their dual-core ones.

Well not if you can't take advantage of them. Really the only OS that can use that are *BSD, Linux distros, and Mac OS X. People who ran out and bought those quad and are running any version of Windows are idiots. The best way to use the other 3 cores would be to rip an audio CD with iTunes or run DVDshrink or something that is programmed to use SMP.

Also well I'm holding the believe that Apple only adds new hardware for a damn good reason, they did upgrade the PowerMac to use dual quad Intel CPUs. I know that the PowerMac is for "power users" but there should be a sound reason for the upgrade then to make it sound like it's better and faster.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate RC1, and yes, while not in final form, which I get at the end of the month (before official release!); it's running slow with 2 gigs of RAM on one of my better laptops.

The final version should be faster, but Vista is the most advanced OS in existence as of now (yes, better than OS X Tiger, which I also get for free), and it can sure use whatever you throw at it.

I am going to try dual-booting it on my black school MacBook once I receive the finalized version. I've heard that it requires some direct, risky code deletion from Boot Camp.

Also, the PS3 is septuacore. Computers won't be catching up to the PS3, at least in the processor core area for quite some time. And since PS3s are having homebrew not only officially supported, but actually facilitated by Sony through Yellow Dog Linux, the PS3 truly will eventually become a fully functional computer.

Except for PC games. I am unsure about that. Could PS3s, through a YDL app, be able to read and play PC games? That would be awesome. Like a cheap Alienware alternative!

And I don't really like Intel. I have had "faster" Intel processors perform much slower than a "slower" AMD chip countless times. And Even if the Quad Core was AMD, I would not be intersted. Dual core was what, last year? Anything this soon is going to be faulty, and generally not useful to the averag PC consumer.

Yep, I've tried Vista, it's awesome (not very original but still awesome). I'd agree, better than OS X (mainly because it is basically modelled after it, and it adds the compatibility issue), but I'd just like to point out that OS X Leopard is a little old, the newest version is Tiger, 10.4.

Leopard comes out next spring; Tiger is the current version: 10.4; Leopard is 10.5.

Leopard comes out next spring; Tiger is the current version: 10.4; Leopard is 10.5.

Yah, I meant Tiger, joevennix and LIBWK. Thanks for the correction. I get a free Tiger upgrade this summer when we all send our school laptops for a factory reset, repair, and upgrade.

those are the old p4 chips. the core duos kick everythings ass. this is not my opinion, this is a fact. go find some benchmarks

Yes, the days past of AMD reining supreme have come to a sudden end. The Core 2 Duo's disgrace the AMD parts in all respects -yes, even gaming.

Intel has taken after AMD by switching to slower-clocked, more efficient core designs.

Except for PC games. I am unsure about that. Could PS3s, through a YDL app, be able to read and play PC games? That would be awesome. Like a cheap Alienware alternative!

The PS3 could not natively run PC games, and it is far too slow to emulate modern gaming computers.

Well, you could run VMWare XP under YDL on a PS3. Seeing as it has that many cores it should run fine I'd think
