Why are you here?

How did you find out about benheck.com? And why did you become a member here? Did you want to make a portable, learn about electronics, to discuss computer and video game stuff, or something else?

Here's mine:
I found out about benheck in Popular Science (I think it was the Feburary or March 2005 issue). I became a member to make a portable (over 1.5 years being here and still haven't done that), to learn more about electronics, and because not many people I know are interested in this fun stuff, so I needed people with similar interests to talk to.

Now you guys do the same, it'll be interesting to see how people found this place and why they stayed.

I was actually linked to a trading post topic by USBCD, and I stumbled into the SNES section and I was like "OMFGWTF!"

Actually I stumbled across the old Classicgaming.com subdomain in '02 while getting pictures for a report on Atari (as a corporation).

A long time passed and I stumbled on this site. I think that was February '05. I lurked for a couple weeks, then joined on March 7.

I've been building a PSone Portable off and on since August '05. My most recent hangup is a screen (the monsy that would have gone to that is now going toward a GP2X)

Me, my brother, and his friend "Doctor Long" were eating at the usual all you can eat chinese buffet. We were talking about some of the best games we've ever played and he tells us of "this site where this guy makes his own portable game consoles..... and no they actually look pretty professional" i was pretty amazed at this so once i got home i googled "portable consoles" and stuff like that. i stumbled on his PS2 portable page, preordered his book. now im here loving it


i originally wanted to build a hand built snesp from his book, then tried vac forming his design.

let me say something else also, before i got bens book i had no clue what i was doing i tried putting random AC power into a SNES with no idea of polarity. I just have to say its one copulate awesome book and its brought me a long way.

Trying to do my failed portable on a guide that told me to make a portable about another system...I was linked to the old site, then Ben put up an update to here...and viola!

I had just got into system mods, and had found a modsite for Dreamcast. There I saw a Dreamcast in a Saturn's case. I then decided to look for other useful things for Saturns, then Genesises, and when I googled "Genesis mod" benheck.com popped up. I watched for about three months then joined to start a Genesis portable.

I came across the classicgaming site about '04 around January/Febuary, I only remember that I was looking at Atari 2600 stuff. When the forum crowd started migrating here I joined them, and have been here since. Now unless I make a formal good-bye I'm staying here for awhile. Not that I'm complaining.

Well I think it was the picture of the GCp that looked like a SP that someone posted on engadget I think it was. And I wanted to make a snesp bu then decided it was work and I don't like putting much effort into anything.

And does anyone know who said anything about benheck on that engadget post ?

i remember seeing bens site on classicgaming and i visited it often amazed at all the stuff he did then i found POD and the link to the old (then dead ) forum, followed it to the new one and bens new site and have been here ever since. i was the 39th member! back in the good ole days when noobs was noobs and it took hours if not days to get a reply to anything, before F42 and the book and all that stuff even! lol

I've known about Ben since early 2003 when I came across his Atari 2600 portable on the classicgaming site. Lurked the old forums quite a bit, then lurked these until I joined more than a year ago :O
