*party horn*
*fistful of confetti falls*

...

Yay? :?

Another reason to avoid GameSchlock. There's only 2 reasons I go there:
1. PSX clearances ($1.99 each for Ridge Racer, Jet Moto 3, and 2 Playstation Underground Jampack discs!)
2. Drool over the cheap Dreamcast games (Crazy Taxi for a quarter. A QUARTER!)

I'm sure that will make Target a living hell tomorrow... if they put them out.

You guys go ahead and have fun with that :). Once the hype dies off I'll try it out. To me the whole "wave the controller in the air" thing is a novelty. What do you do when that gets old? You go out and buy a new controller shell! Right, Mr. Potatomoto?

Ah, such strong views.....Speculation, of course, but hopefully that will all change soon ;) (the speculation, I mean, not necessarily the opinion :P).
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

so there must be a gyro inside that thing afterall if it does the tilt. I wasn't totally sure if it was lights only or gyro/lights.

looks like a pretty conventional gaming experience to me.
whoop de freaking do, it's like an analog stick that you have to hold in a stupid way that looks like it hurts after 20 min.

that's now my official wii position: 'whoop de freaking do'
at least the display looks nice. I'm easily distracted by pretty lights.

If this turns into another "WII'S OWN" "WII'S SUCK" thread, it's gonna be closed.

Personally, I went to EB Games and played the kiosk there. Luckily, I was allowed to browse the main menu - I made a Mii! :P Excite Truck was the playable game, it was pretty good, not my type of game though.

actually, from the looks of the demo movie, the wii wouldn't be too bad to portablize then--at least for the tilt games, as long as the screen had a generous viewing angle. maybe put a wii optical sensor underneath a ps1 lcd and have some kind of tethered pen controller for the rest of the games. all it would need would be something to hold and a couple of those IR LEDs.
(but why?)

actually, a portable wii would probably be easier to play for long periods of time (in non-tilt games)

Are there going to be other playable games, or is Excite Truck pretty much the only thing available at the moment? I would think that they'd have Zelda and Red Steel demos, since those are the two games that will push Wii sales the most, or at least Wii Sports, since it'll be coming with the system. I personally wouldn't trek down to a Gamestop just to play Excite Truck and nothing else for the Wii; I'd rather try out games that I might actually want to buy.

One of the things I'd like you all to keep in mind is the criticism Nintendo draws for its new fangled ways. Think about it this way: What is the PS3 boasting? Graphics and media. The Wii? Games and new game interfaces. Now I was under the impression that these are gaming consoles, not media consoles. The way I see it, the Wii's features make much more sense than the PS3's...

My other EB Games is going to have Wii Sports and Zelda, so the answer is yes.

exactly luc

but people want other features in a gaming system now. so it seems like they are getting more bang for their buck ;)
it still would be nice if the wii would play dvds though since i dont have one in my room anymore

I'd recommend having the employees wipe it off, just to be safe ;)

Personally, I'm going to the nearest relatively major city today; hopefully their gamestop will have a wii. If not, I think I'll be going back Sunday, when Target will have it :)

You just completely contradicted yourself. If you say you're going to have facts to back up your opinion, how can you sit here and give your lengthy, unsustained argument having not played either system?

I'm just trying to make a point. I've supported the Wii and don't pretend not to; but I haven't bashed the PS3; who knows, it may turn out to be a pretty nice machine. I myself was a PS2 guy this generation. What won me over? Nintendo's innovation.

I was judging by fact.

- Blu-Ray discs hold more than DVDs
- The controller's innovation is a double-edged sword
- The PS3 has the most processor horsepower
- The Wii has no HD support
- The launch title library is similar to their previouls launch selection
- The Virtual Console is loaded with old games people probbaly bought 10+ years ago (Then again I bet there are a few oldies in the Xbox Live Arcade, or whatever it's called.)

I haven't come out and said "I think the wii sucks because it sucks get a PS3 noob". have I? (Well, aside from that last sentence :P) It's just a substantial deviation from traditional gaming methods, and whenever something's too different, people may be a bit more skeptical about it. I'm not saying it's a sucky system (nobody can really judge either way just yet), I just question some of Nintendo's decisions (should've used a next-generation media format, HD support would make it more future-proof, etc...). The facts are there, just no prior experience yet.
