Which GP2X?

I'm thinking about a gp2x for chirstmas. However, only now idd i notice there is 2 versions of it. the 240 mhz and the 275mhz.

I'll be mostly using it for emulators. Should I chip in an extra 30$ US (and I live in Canada, so it's more) for the slight gain (13%) in speed? Is it not worth it?

Can it be easily overclocked?

If you feel adventuresome I bet you could easily clock it up a little bit to match or exceed the slightly more expensive version, in fact, it is probably exactly the same under the neat, they just set it lower to provide a lower cost one.

they are the exact same system the only difference is one is guarenteed to clock to at least 275.

Why can the other one "sometimes" overclock?

not all cpu's are made equally, some may overclock mast 275, whil others wont overclock by 20mhz

Put down the extra cash for the faster model. You know it runs at that speed, it's stable, and when you think about it $30 isn't all that big a deal. (Slightly over $26 USD)

Jeez some of you guys sound like you'll buy the slower version of anything and overclock it just to save a couple bucks.

It's 30 US. which is more like 34 Canadian. Plus I have to buy it. And I don't have a job.

But yeah, sounds like I'll chip in the extra amount. I'll probably be getting money for Christmas, since there's nothing I really want. Except to get into University, but Ican't get that for Christmas, now, can I?

Perhaps I'll convert religions so I'll be able to collect presents and such from ALL the holidays this season!

With the faster version, do you still need to overclock it? Or is it pre-overclocked? Also, does overclocking require only software, like a computer overclock, or hardware, like a GBO overclock. (I'm assuming since it runs linux, it'll be an easy software OC.)

the speed is worth it, especially with the PSone emu that is being worked on.

im not sure how that emu is going now i wonder if its made any big progress? can anybody here answer that for me *cough*triton*cough*

While browsing through working emulators for the gp2x, i stumbled apon the XGP. made by gampark (not gp holdings) and flaunts 3d graphics @ 250mhz. Anyone heard of this? Is it avaiable in Canada and is it better than the gp2x?

XGP is most likely vaporware. Don't think its ever coming out.

And the GP2x overclocks with the program you are using. You can use an alternate frontend like GMenu2x and it will overclock each program at the desird overclocking value when you launch them. And it looks better than the original GP2x frontend.
