I use linuxquestions for anything I cant figure out. Especially my wireless card. I'm leaning towards Fedora, the only thing holding me up is the dread of downloading the ISO's. I'm inherently impatient. I am gonna try to boot to my existing partition a couple more times and try a few tricks up my sleeves. If its a no go I am either gonna do a fresh install of Slack(if I am feeling lazy) or I'll get fedora. Maybe mandrake... just because it was the first distro I used, and I had good results with it. But the excitement of playing with a new distro is there too... Crap I dont know what to do.

Wait... I had an idea. Err... I just remembered something. I recently changed my secondary hard drive(the one with slackware on it) from the primary IDE channel, to the secondary IDE channel. When it was on the Primary channel the partition was called hdb5, Since I switched channels would the partition be named different now? Just a brainstorm. I'll look it up.

[EDIT] Answered my own question... Looks like I might not have to re-install linux at all... here I go to check and see if its now on hdc or hdd. I think its hdd.

[EDIT2] Well it turns out that I am an idiot. The drive is now hdc5... I cant believe I forgot about that.

There is this lady on ebay, bigcat_iso, who sells the linux distros really cheaply. Her specials are like 15 for 13.99, and if you wnat more, then just ask and she gives discounts. Shipping is free too. If you can wait a week, than that is the way to go. Besides, didn't you say you had 10 weeks or something?

Mepis is good. I like slax(the live cd), but cant install it. KDE is just the best, because I have not really seen a good cd burning app in GNOME, although I have heard thatone or too are approaching fast.

Also, if you have broadband you should be able to get distros in a few hours or overnight if you use a download accellerator.

Ivbe only had one problem with installing an os. Unix i need to buy a disc. But linux works fine

Ok, I'll check that out. I want to get a new distro on my computer after I format the SOB. I'll just install it on the second hd. By the way anyone know a good online guide to installing LILO, I think thats what its called (the bootloader). I have installed grub but its sence ruined my computer.

Can you not install it for personal reasons? Like, is it a family computer or something? Because I know its possible to install slax to a hard drive.

News, turns out I got a free version of Fedora core 1 (striped down according to my teacher), should I install that or is there a better distro to learn on. I need to get read of RH9 so would this be the best option?

welp, I'm upgrading myself (no, I'm not upgrading myself, I'm upgrading as well)

I recently found out that SuSE 9.2 Professional is available for download, and I was thinking about buying it, but when I saw it for download I started it. I'm 67% done with a 2.097GB file, going 157KB/s. I must have been fortunate to have a good conection, I don't normally get that fast. Well, now's a good time to do it, as I haven't downloaded anything this big before.

nope, I think that there was very few on the server at the time. Now, if you'll excuse me, I gotta burn this thing

Wow, I guess im lucky. Im getting a steady 344 KB/sec. But I have a cable modem, so that explains the fast speed.

I cant because I dont know how. I dont see an icon and cant find anything to install it.

I am going to make a custom livecd, cause many have some stuff and not others. I have just seen how to do it. And then I can sell it on ebay. DNOPPIX. That sounds nice.

i use slackware for my command line boxes, and for gui installs i use suse or mandrake
