2600 Case Mod?? UPDATED WITH NEW PICS!!!

I have an Atari 2600 Vader case, would I be able to fill in the ridges on the top with bondo or something and paint it up. The reason I'm asking is because I afriad of making it look like crap if I can't sand the bondo flat right. Also what color should I paint it. I was thinking Krylon X Metals Red or Blue. Then I was thinking of buying a board from Best Electronics.ca or whatever the site is and hardwiring in a RGA Game switcher.

What do you think.

I think you should use the question mark more often.

If you are going to fill in the creases, fill them with an adhesive/marine putty first, but leave a small enough layer to put bondo on top of the adhesive, then sand in progression starting with 100 grit, then 200, then 350-400, and even 600. This will make the thing feel like glass.

I say paint it a really shiny red, with black edges.

Just bondo'd the creases today, it turned out great. I also went and picked up pepper red krylon and black Krylon Fusion for the edges. I am going to be able to save the instrument panel of the case because I put tape over it. This will be the great.

The Digital Camera is at office and it's a little late for a "Making Of" series of photos. I can post a picture of the final product. Just a few minutes ago, I sanded the bondo down and there is only one small imperfection, there is a little area about the size of a dime in the corner that is a little bit lower. But that can be fixed. Tomorrow, I will wet the surface and finalize it with some fine grain sand paper. Then I can go on to the paint job. Shiny red with black edges, like Skyone said. Oh Yeah, you can thank vgcollector666 for selling me the Vader case, I think I can make these a series considering I can get two more shells from my friend.

I've decided to go with your idea for the paint job, all the stores in the area clearenced out all the all the X-Metal paints anyway. I was also thinking of putting an Atari Fuiji in the flat space where the creases used to be.

I just went to the hardware and got some waterproof sandpaper so I can do a wet sand. I got multiple grains plus a really smooth grade for a finish. I also read on Wiki that for bondo case mods you can use spot putty or fiberglass resin for a glassy clear coat. I've now fixed all imperfections in the bondo!

This will turn out so sweet.

I think this is the World's First Atari 2600 Case Mod. This will be sweet, this is turning out a lot better than I thought it would. I thought the bondon would get lumpy and crappy. But the whole works is looking great.

what about the guy who put a 360 into a 2600 or bens atari ps2 combo unit

technically any and all Atari portables are case mods... just from scratch

don't forget to add something for airflow since the grooves of the Atari have holes for that

Does an Atari really put out that much heat? Seems about as useful as watercooling a cheap calculator.

Making an Atari portable is a little more then case modding. Namely the modification of the video output, and reduction of the overall system [size].

Also there is really no need to improve airflow with the case. This is an Atari not a Playstaion, the heat generated and dissipated from the Atari's chips are quite differnt. You can leave the case as enclosed as it originally was.

I should've been more clear, I think I'm the world's first person to modify and original Atari 2600 case. A portable for me is a extreme really cool hardware hack, and as for swapping the 360's case that is a Case Swap. The Atari 2600 PS2 Combo Unit is a combo unit/ really sweet hardware hack. When I think case mod, I think modify the original case.

I think you're thinking of the speaker slits, I noticed those when I opened mine up. I read on the internet that Atari made a bunch of cases with speaker holders on the inside, but then never ordered speakers. That explains the slits on the case and the holders on the inside.
