Well I bought a 360 a few months ago and don't really like it that much! I mean can't wait till halo 3 but my neighbor has one so I am good there. I am thinking about selling my 360 for a laptop so I can still game and everything but also so I can have it for collage next year. Anyone see any good laptops under a thousand out there? and also what should I sell my 360 for. Its in perfect condition and its a core pack ($300) I was thinking about $250 would be good. Any feed back?

Thats good, but you'll need almost 1k for a good lappy, 2k for a very nice one

you can get core duo laptops fur under 1200 if you know where to look, ill try and dig up some links

I like my Inspiron E1505. The gfx chipset is incompatible with some games, but it's still capable of running WoW at a nice framerate.

i reccomend to all my college/uni friends to get a USED laptop. why? because usually these people are on a tight budget, and laptops are like cars - they depreciate like 20% as soon as you take them out of the store (barring refunds)(possible exaggeration, i never actually did the math)

i got my thinkpad R40 for $550 CDN last year, and it does everything i need it to do for school and play, except fancy 3D graphics (i dont game much anyways).

Thinkpads are what i reccomend, they are a quality laptop, and i am in love with the joystick type mouse; i HATE those crapy touch pad thingies. Im not saying you should get an old R40, i bet you can find something newer and more impressive for under $700 US though.

if you absolutely need some raw 3D power, my friend got a compaq notebook for like $1100 CDN last year, brand new. its got a 64-bit AMD chip clocked at 2ghz, and integrated x800 graphics card (or maybe x300.. i forget), and a gig of ram. i bet you could find one of these used for less than $800 USD. ive seen them around a lot, they seem popular. sorry, no model number.

of course, if you have the cash flow, by all means get a brand new $1500 laptop. i cant afford that kinda stuff though. tuition is my entire years earnings. every year

one last warning: try not to buy into this dual core crap too much. of course the companies are trying to push their products by making commercials implying that you cant run more than one program without a dual core processor (:roll:), but for the extra price and - more importantly - power consumption, you arent getting that much real preformace gain, esp if you arent runnning programs written for dual-core comptuers (hint: most of your games are probably not written for multiple cores. and you probably dont need to run more than one game at once)

Core 2 Duos are a different story, showing impressive gains in just about all catagories over more expensive AMD counterparts.

Anyway, you could always build your laptop. The Compal HEL80 chassis has a 15.4" 1280x800 glossy, a GeForce 7600 256MB video card, and takes Core Duo and Core 2 Duo. It costs something like 580 dollars. The rest depends on what you already have and what you can bum off people. You'll need a processor, Ram, hard drive, and optical drive.

Another option is the Asus S96J, similar in all respects but with a 256MB dedicated/ 256MB hypermemory X1600.

You should try to get, at the VERY LEAST, a laptop with a X1400 or Geforce 7400- at the VERY LEAST. The X1600 and Geforce 7600 have a good cost/performance ratio, and they can be found in 15.4 inch notebooks if you want to stay portable.

With midrange video cards, you really want to stick with 1280 x 800 screen resolution, because you have the best chance of combining both high graphics settings and native resolution gameplay.

Also, please- PLEASE- make sure the heat vent is not on the mouse side of the laptop! You don't want to be playing a FPS with a sweaty hand. The S96J vents to the rear, as does the Compal I think.

As for dual core gaming, the only games I know of which make use of it are Quake 4 and Oblivion (which looks beautiful on the S96J, by the way).

My dad got a cheap Acer off Tigerdirect a few months ago for about $600. You can get an even better one than that for the same price now. His is doing pretty good, battery life sucks and it gets kinda hot (at least it doesn't overheat when on a flat surface like my friend's dad's Compaq). I haven't tried games on it, but the newer ones for the same price have better GPUs.

You can find a lot and by that I mean most laptops that have AMD Turon64(X2) in them under $1000. The think that really would help though is what perposes would you be using this for. I konw you seem to want to do gaming, which you should know and everyone here will tell you that a laptop isn't the best option for it.

Otherwise I would say if you don't plan to do anything extreme with them, like audio/video editing, high end gaming, or anything that requires a good machine, go dell. If you want a multimedia laptop, HP seems to be filling that market well. If you want to avoid Windows (unless gaming) go Mac.

All three offer option for under $1000, it may be close but you could swing it.
