will this battery work?

i have a genesis 3 and i was wondering if a RC car battery would work. it says on the back of the charger: "INPUT: 120VAC 60Hz 0.12A" and then "OUTPUT: 8.5VDC 530mA 4.5VA"
1) does that mean that the battery itself has the same stats as the output of the charger?
2) will this battery work for powering my genesis?
any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

I think the battery is a 7.2v NiMH, but use a voltmeter to find that out.

i just tested the battery with my multimeter. it only charged for about 1/4 or 1/4 of the time it says to charge it and it read out 8.4 volts. does that mean that the "OUTPUT" on the charger is the info for the battery? and will it work for me?

Is there like a label on the battery? Rechargable batteries usually get charged than a higher voltage then it usually is. My suggestion, it's probably a 7.2 volter. To make sure, recharge it like half way or so, or recharge it full then use some power. Then test it, for after a full charge, batteries give higher voltages then they should.

Also, if it's a little too powerful, you can always step down the power with some resistors. And remember, the screen will also be running off of this.

i just charged the battery, and i checked it, it said 8.62 volts. then when it was about 1/2 way, maybe 1/4 (im not entirely sure) it was at like 8.2, somewhere around there. and no, there isnt any info on the sticker for the battery, it just says the brand and stuff.

@indigno: but if its too powerful wont it fry the genesis on the first try?
