Im Afraid they have brought legal action on themselves
If you have an agreed contract you stick to it or you get sued
simple
When someone breaks a law, they get arested
When someone breaks a contract lawsuits start a flyin'
This is not because sony is big evil empire, its a simple matter of breach of contract and they are well within their rights to do what they have done
Lik-Sang out of business

its true they were within their rights to do it but it was still a bad move on their part, it just serves to alienate sony from the hardcore gamer audience (their prime target with the ps3)

But they make that money by overcharging them for a crappy OS (people in developing countries need Windows to, well, develop). I was listening to the radio a couple years ago and there was a talk show on about a company that made cheap computers so that poor families could have a computer in their home (for kids to do homework and such, these were not gaming rigs) and it said that Micro$oft charged them $50 for each copy of Windows 98! Hows that for helping the poor.atari2600a wrote:YOU FREAKING RETARD1!!!!!! THE BILL & MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION DONATES BILLIONS TO MULTIPLE CAUSES EACH YEAR!!!!!!
Oh well, if it keeps xbox going, I suppose we must deal with it.

And yes if it was Nintendo, I'd be equally as displeased.
Yes it was legal. No it wasn't exactly a great decision business and PR wise, one would think they could have found some way to take advantage of the situation, or just let it slide and soak up the good will of the early adopters.
To Sony's credit, they seem to know there way around portable electronics, just not video games. I think the PSP is a great example of this, it makes a way better general portable media/internet appliance than hand held game system. They could have dropped the UMD slot and branded it as a next gen iWalkman and nobody would know the difference.
For that matter slap a keyboard on it, put Linux or PalmOS on it and sell it as the next gen Clie!
