*looks at chrono's name*
**looks at list...number two to be specific**

by any chance is THAT why you think its the most accurate?

j/k

i would have put Sonic Adventure on there had i been in charge...

Personnaly i think sonic adventure is right up there in the classics with
Super mario 64,LOZ:OOT,Halo and others
Steve irwin-died of stingray (WTH?)

Of course, 'countdowns' and 'top 100000000 best evar!' type things are based on opinion. I don't know about you guys, but I haven't played every game ever made, thus I am incapable of ranking them based on a criteria.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Well, no one was technically "in charge"; it was a reader's choice, so you voted.

Well, I don't think anyone's played every game, but that's still ridiculous to think you can't vote because of it; you have played SOME games, no? Don't you have opinions on those games? It's kinda like saying if you don't know what EVERY candidate on a ballot stands for, you won't vote at all.

This is one fantasticly screwed up mess! Honestly, no Sonic, no Tetris, no FZERO, and Shenmue rates higher than Super Mario Bros. The thing is, Shenmue was a good game. Not as good as Mario Bros, but better than NCAA Football 2004! Insult to injury, not one, BUT TWO GRAND THEFT AUTO GAMES RATE HIGHER THAN SHENMUE, LEGEND OF ZELDA AND SUPER MARIO BROTHERS!!! I don't know what the hell is wrong with these people, but come on, this list is total BS.

IGN is generally out of touch with the gaming world,
but adding to the problem is that raving nerds like us are just as far out of touch, in a completely different dirrection.

chrono trigger is one I've never been able to figure out. It's so popular with people I know, that it must be pretty good. "wait" battle system my rear... I've *tried* to like it, numerous times, but I never get more than 6 hours in before I realize that I just want the main characters to die so the game could be over. Still it's a better game than shemue--I wanted him to die from the start
actually if sega came out with a game that was just about plotting and killing that guy from shemue...

I've heard nothing but good about RE4, though. and now I may have to give it the chance that the first couple thousand resident evil games got and didn't deserve.

Still, I would have expected to see--oh I don't know, Pacman or Tetris to make the list somewhere. But yeah, I'm sure conker's brainless adventure is way better than either of those. I'm surprised the identical xbox port of Conker didn't make the list, like those cloned metal gear games. "Conker's back again, in the same exact game, but now with more fart references"

Pacman? Galaga? Dig Dug? Pole Position? Smash TV?

I am ashamed to see certain titles over others.

My big problem is that you cannot rate a sport game against an rpg title. They should've made a pole with each specific genre...that would definitely give out a more accurate list of favorite games.

In fact, if I only play, let's say 100 for arguments sake, video games, I'm comparing them only to the other ones I've personally played. Lets say they are all atari 2600 games. Now, if I pick as my #1 game of all time one of these games, since I've never heard of 'Resident Evil' or 'Mario' (et cetra), I am providing an ignorant view of the subject. I do research on any side of an argument before I join it, to lose this ignorance and have a somewhat complete view on the subject. Nonetheless, if I still believe in whatever I believed in before, then that's ok too. Really, you're right, I should never vote again, until I understand what they are all talking about. It's probably better than me voting for the only guy I have heard of.

Alright everybody calm down... This is REader's choice

That means...
1) people had to play the games
meaning- that the more popular systems were the dominats of the list

2) People who play these games play barely anything else
meaning- these games are good, no doubt there, but these games were played for hours and hours while they saved up money to buy the other new game by the bigg name developer

3) People on a grand scale are stupid cows
meaning- barely anybody in this day and age thinks for themself, thereby if one person creates a strong enough argument, they will dominate the fields end of story

4) True gamers had split votes
meaning- the people who actually like to dissect games (like us) are split with our own opinions and definitions of what a game really is, Example I really like RPGs but to me Some of the really good ones that ranked up there should not have, OoT is great But I so like Rez better, It is like comparing apples and oranges

5) they should narrowed the fields then voted multiple times
meaning- have a best of catagory, a most unique, best Cult favorite etc. Then shuffle the deck, so to speak to find which was better in that ranking. Also, there should have been an editor's pick of the crap that shouldn't even be mentioned (such as Superman...anything, or Full Metal Alchemist (the games were bad don't flame me I love the Anime) or whatever else was true crappola)

Those are my five opinions deal with it!

6) These gamers are members of IGN, which means they're dumb enough to pay money for video game information that should be free to the community. I can vouche for this as I briefly got a 1-3 month subscription to their magazine (GameShark update disc) and really it's about as good as Xbox Magazine is to the Xbox and NintendoPower is to Nintendo products. Meaning it's pointless to read it as it's not going to give you real reviews on games, accessories, and consoles.

Maybe we should have a best 100 games review. Just to spite IGN, and maybe someother gaming communities.

Tried and failed. We attempted to have one earlier this summer in retalliation to IGNs other Top 100, with me and several other people helping organize votes, categories, write-ups, etc. However, we got nowhere near enough votes... For all the talk of people here, seems they just don't give a damn when something is actually done... :?

Actually, Nintendo Power gives pretty good reviews. (Thay gave "That's So Raven" for the GBA what it deserves!)

I still don't understand how Grim Fandango made the list.

It's nice to see it there--great game, and a very creative choice, but how did it effect so many people they polled so deeply that they bothered to remember it. I never would have thought of it, and I loved it. The flipside is that the very mentioning of grim fandango makes me *instantly* think of Sam n' Max, and start wondering how many spaces higher to place it. but it didn't even make the list.

seems slightly fixed for a pure reader's choice.
