That is a good point. We have a 48 inch HDTV, but it is a rear projection and has burn-in, so no gaming on it. Don't believe me about burn-in on it? Then what is the channel 2 logo doing in the bottom right corner? Not all rear projections do this, I think they changed it in newer ones (ours is about 3 years old, so the beginning of HD).

just don't play for long amounts of time and that shouldn't be a problem.
and about the monitor resolution thing, I don't understand it either. Nobody has been able to give me a good answer about that.

My theory is that people will make downscaling set-top boxes to receive HD broadcasts and convert the signal for use on SDTVs and EDTVs.

It still burns it in, unless I want to play only a few minutes a day on a game and then switch so that there is a different interface on screen. I wish it didn't have that problem.

I have an LCD projector, awesome quality, at home. I love having HDTV stuff on there, although I haven't used much that really uses that resolution to the max (best I've done is standard DVD on an HDMI port)

Therefore, Almost anyone with an upwards of 20" LCD monitor with a high resolution (read: any real pc gamer) has HD right on their desks.

Yeah, PC gamers have been gaming in HD for more than a decade now.

That's really killing something like the Xbox with is a PIII that's only 733MHz, nVideo graphics that are 16-32MB and only 64MB system ram, that's nothing compared to todays computes and most of these new consoles speces are only a year (xbox 360's 2 year) old.

Edit - Hell even the Xbox could output lowend HD graphics, I believe it was 720p.

Err... PowerPC does not mean it's strong, it's just IBM's name, like Intel has Pentium. and as far as i can see,

CPU: PowerPC based processor codenamed "Broadway" made with a 90 nm SOI CMOS process.

is the only cpu info floating around. nothing more specific.

Actually the PowerPC broadway is only running a 729mhz. I read about it on a page at IBM's website, but the page has since been removed, giving a message about that I don't have IBM certification to view the page. Also, like Totokan said, PowerPC is just a name, the GC had a PowerPC in it, as do old Imac G3s

Almost every mac prior to intel switch early this year/late last year was a PowerPC, I have a G3 and a PowerMacintosh (or something) with a PPC.

I personally own a nice HDTV (Sony KDS-R50XBR1). Here are my thoughts on the whole hi-def thing:

I dont care. Games like Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness (some parts), and even God of War in some areas, look absolutely phenominal at 480p. Hell, DVDs are roughly the same resolution and everyone is happy with them.
I feel that most games will certainly NOT benefit from the increased resolution. Only a few genres (such as RTS' and such) will need the extra resolution, and those are better suited to a PC anyhow.

Bottom line: I'd rather have a nice smooth 60fps game at 480p, than a jerky 25-30fps game at 720p/1080i.

But the XBOX360 seems to be just an upgraded XBOX without all the capabilities, In fact I think the XBOX is very Mac-ish (before OS- of course)

The design, the electronics, However, I see the DVD format for the games to be a blunder in the design...Since the DVD format is going away to HD-DVD and Blu-ray (or will both of them pull a Beta-max...hmmmm)
