The new IGN Top 100 (Chrono Trigger is #2 :D )

Post by CronoTriggerfan »

Yup, IGN came out with yet another Top 100 countdown of the greatest games ever, last one being 2 years ago. The new list is found here. I think this is the most accurately gauged list yet, although Earthbound didn't make it... Oh well, Chrono Trigger is #2, FF III was #8, and Kingdom Hearts made the list, so I'm happy!! :D

So, what are your opinions on the list? Did you vote? Happy, sad, upset, pissed? Discuss!

Super Mario World needs to be much farther up, as does Kingdom Hearts, but just opinions.

I'm kinda pissed, I don't even like Ocarina of Time, let alone Zelda.

Ok, Super Mario Bros. in the 80s?! What are they smoking...

Wow, they only had 1 P&C Adventure game. I REALLY think they should of put The Longest Journey & Syberia I/II in there!

I REALLY agree w/ Super Metroid being #4 though. Amazing sound/music, beautiful graphics, Awesome ending! (who would've expected that huge@$$ Metroid to save Samus at the last second, let alone suck her virtually dry of her energy right before?)

<offtopic>Has anyone ever played the FDS version of Metroid? Purely amazing!</offtopic>

What...the...hell? No Yoshi's Island?! Pffft, I don't respect that list at all. Metroid fusion made it and Yoshi's Island didn't. They haven't got a clue what good gameplay and level design is, I'll wager.

It is! Shows how much I pay attention!

But ya, I was pissed Yoshi's Island didn't make it, either... It was my first ever video game on a home console, I got the SNES for my 4th birthday with that game. Loved it to bits. Can't wait for the DS sequel! It's one of the few reasons I haven't sold my DS yet... >_>

Some games are way to high on the list. Like MVP Baseball 2005, which wasn't even released here.
It amazes me that games like Final Fantasy X score worse than other rpg's. Lots of gamers also just put up recent games cause they never played old ones.

Though the top is sorta correct. You can't judge games like Chrono Trigger and Ocarina of Time as one cause they are totally different games.

I think these lists are BS. I don't even NEED to read this one to make predictions such as:

All the really cool games (ie, ones I like) get stuck in like 20-100.

The top 20 are mostly Super Nintendo titles.

The top 10 titles are third RPG's, third Mario, third Zelda.

The top game is either Super Mario Bros. 1 on the NES (please) or Tetris.

EDIT:

WHOOPS! Ok now I just read the list. READER'S choice. Well then. This is actually much better than most Editor's Choice lists I've seen. If anything it has too many current-gen titles but you know what? A more advanced system CAN make you better games. (Plus most people have real short memories)

Wait, no tetris?

A better list to make would be "Games of Significant Importance to the Advancement of Gaming in General"

That oughtta get rid of all the crappy titles.

Well I'm not going to argue that Zelda OoT is a good game I don't think it's great enough to be in the #1 spot. I'm impressed that Castlevania SotN is #11, that's where they had their best judgement. Other then that, there are dozens of other games that could be listed but are not. Lastly FFX was a nice game but it's more cinima then actual play and really as I see it not that great of a game and shouldn't be in the top 50, if on the list at all.

Yeah yoshi's island rocks the casba but metroid fusion is a good game but I think it's in the right place as one of the last titles. On the other hand Metroid Prime came AFTER echoes... that's retarded prime is at least 3 or 4 times better than echoes
