IE 7 Now Available

I just put this on my work laptop for testing. It looks like they have finally closed the gap to a certain extent between IE and the other browsers. Anybody else trying this out or planning to?

the tabbed browsing is very nice. Especially with today's more powerful machines the number of IE windows gets pretty high.
but early adoption of a microsoft product? Not on my machine, thank you.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge microsoft fan, and credit them with having a great bugfix system. but I'll wait for the cycle--vulnerabilities are discovered, exploited, addressed and repaired.

I imagine every h4x0r in the country has a copy of the new beta right about now and is seeing what they can pull over on it. just another part of the machine that gets me better software.

I wonder if the desktop can be configured to be tabbed too... that is the one thing I always envied about linux, multiple desktops.

I recently switched to Firefox and will stick with that for the time being. For some reason IE has always rubbed me the wrong way.

But I still agree with Jones on the Wii.

Try it out, oh ye of little faith. I'm not saying it's perfect, but in my opinion it's a step up from Firefox. Then again I have to use it for work and play. Firefox has some serious limitations in the Corporate world. Which is too bad, because it's not a bad little browser.

I probably have a bit different vantagepoint simply because I work in IT for a large Corporation. In our environment Firefox just doesn't quite cut it. This is mainly due in large part to it's lack of integration with different Microsoft enterprise applications (shocking I know

). For home use though. Firefox is a great alternative.

I choose to use IE at home, probably because I use it so much at work. I do have Firefox installed at home though, although I mainly use it for checking out how my website displays in it more than anything else. That said, I can understand why people choose to use Firefox. It is a lighter application, but that lightness sacrifices a lot of the functionality that is required in a Corporate environment. Although, to Firefox's credit, I doubt they ever claimed to be creating a browser for the Corporate world.

I tried the IE 7 beta, total crap. Even IE 6 was better. I couldn't do anything with it, I took it off and still use Firefox. You can do a ton more to customize it, and the icons aren't stupid, I couldn't understand them in IE 7.

it's about time it got tabs. but i still highly prefer firefox to everything because of the extensions (i have 30 extensions

). my firewall blocks the IE download site so could somebody mirror it so i could check it out?

Not as cool as Firefox...

or Netscape or Mozilla or Opera (the browser, not the headache)...

Is it just me or has Microsoft been doing nothing but playing catch-up lately? I mean, Vista is Mac OS X - 4 years of work +5 years of development, IE 7 is basically catching up to Mozilla (even then it's a half-arsed attempt at it).

It's probably full of security holes and bugs at the moment, so you may want to hold off installing it until they come out with security patches. (I know MS is trying to be better about security, but their track record speaks for itself.)

If Microsoft was a publisher they wouldn't proofread anything. Instead they'd sell copies of books full of spelling and grammar errors, and then mail out little slips of paper with the corrections on them for the reader to glue in themselves.

We'll just have to wait for someone to write up an IE 7 review.

I installed the portable version, I like it but I don't like close buttons on each tab, I just middle click, with it on each tab I might accidentally close them when switching tabs.

To be honest I've seen IE7, my Linux Instructor has a VM disc running Vista. I wasn't impressed and really there isn't much to talk about. Microsoft would have done better (cosmeticly) to flat out copy Firefox then try to integrate tabs into IE.
