It's not stealing, it's paying for an object that isn't what you're buying. Example is a college student scanned the barcode of a CD play and put that over the barcode of an iPod. He ended up paying about $10 for someting that sould have been $300. But like all people that think their clever he went back and got caught. I will note that this happened about a year ago and it was at walmart. If you want to read the article you can find it on digg.com.

You're safe w/ barcode tag switching, only if the clerk doesn't look at the register's display!

You should've seen how pissed the clerk got when someone was going to sell Goldeneye 64 until I offered to buy directly from them in cash. They handed it over for $2! And to think if I was a minute later I'd have to pay $20-$30 to get it from the store.

do that at EBgames-Gamestop and offer them more money than what they will give them...you can get pstwo's for like $40 Gamecubes for $30 it is ridiculous (I know this since the local game store just up and offered me a job I walk in so much I think I may take it...)

Funny I thought sport gamers were the poorest, as they buy the same game every year. I'd also like to correct you, I'm talking about ripping off major stores, like Walmart or electronics stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, ect. You can't do tag switching really at thrift stores as they have the items listed buy hand writen stickers, so it's not something as easy as making a scan.

I did this at a used music store. I bought a genesis 1 with all hookups and 7 games (nothing too interesting in the games except for ecco, but I am trying to get a complete US genny collection so it all worked out) and a colecovision controller from a lady for $10. I almost got her NES for free too because the clerk didn't really know how to get the system to work. Eventually it powered up and she took their credit. I'd have offered more for the NES but I just spend a good amount at the Goodwill across the street. The price would have been around what people sell them on ebay, or here even anyways.

As for tag switching, something kind of the same happened to me at Goodwill when I bought a saturn bundle and 15 complete games for $28.99. I brought it up to the register and somehow it rang up $384.99!
