slim ps2 newbie questions - FAQ and ps2 versions?

i'm thinking about making a portable ps2 and have a couple of questions

is there a good FAQ or readme or somewhere i can get a bunch of info about making a PS2 portable (I've already god Ben's book)

are there different versions of the slim PS2 that work better than others? which should I look for?

yes, i did use the search function but didn't have much luck

To tell you the truth, this is about the most extensive conglomorative PS2 resource you can find.

For the PSTwo (along with Xbox and the 7th gen consoles) you really just have to get down 'n dirty; browsing old threads, using that multimeter, tracing leads, etc. If you really get stuck, you could always personally contact some of the guys who've made these things, or post specific questions here on the forums. Someday, we'll have a good user database for the PS2 as we do the GC, but I think we may have to wait until more brave souls step up to give it a shot!

Thats because there is very little information about portablizing PS2's. Try searching here for people that have made one and ask them for help.

It was a joke displaying the lack of public information on the PS2. It's more of a DIY project.

It's nice that you're so ambitious, but I think that a PS2 may not be the best first portable. It's expensive if you screw up, and it's more complicated inside than a SNES or atari etc.

Indigno, i understand you've got a good point, but i'm going to Iraq in about 2 months and i'd hoped to have something completed by then. not sure it's a reasonable expectation though. I need to finish a motor swap in my camry and some other stuff around the house. thanks for the advice!

if you know someone with a good little bit of electronics experience and enough practice in a pencil solder then you should be fine (by saying you are going to Iraq I am sure you are in the military and that you must know a radar repairman or someone else who has knowledge in electronics detail)

I feel for you and watch yourself over there

Also, if you have Ben's book that kinda knowledge is in there, all you need is to have a good amount of practice (I know practice is annoying but it is the only thing that truely helps)

the Pstwo has no real difficulty while comparing it with the psone (same hook-ups and everything) the only difficulty is the difficulty of accidently frying it when it costs around $80 at a used game store

thanks, i'll make sure to watch out. should be interesting, we're going to a "safe" area

i think for now i'm going to get a laptop with a dvd player and run emulators. the wife doesn't like the idea of me getting another project before i leave. I'll bring ben's book with me (got it last time i was overseas) and study up

take your pencil solder and some solder and get some cheap electronics kits (like DIY small FM radios)
