A Vomit Enduced Textual Read

Hey, I gotta pick a horror book for English, but for this one, I want to get well...horror. I've read Stephen King, and Edgar Allen Poe; Poetic darkness fear does not entice. Really, I'm wanting a book that goes detail on gore...plain gore! Anyone read anything of that nature, or can recommend to me of said novel.

If so, I recommend Battle Royale...although it's almost a direct adaptation from the movie IIRC
Then again, all that was adapted from the book itself, so if you can find a copy, read it

i have read good things about the book "house of leaves" dfunno if its gore or anyhting but its supposed to be scary and awesome check it out (paperback can be got on amazon for about 9$)

Well I'm not a big fan of the orignal Bram Stoker's Dracula, so you can read a selection from that. Dante's Inferno is something unique, if your audiance can understand it's wording (simalar to old english). Also goes to Steven King, the Stand, it's a great book far by no stretch of the imagination better then the movie (and that's 4 hours long!).

If you can get a book with pictures, then go for it. Or you can try one of those Halocaust books, or The Rape of Nanking (If you're really going for the freaky freaky)

Sparkfist beat me to suggesting Dante's Inferno, but Michael Chrichton has some good stuff. If you're looking for some seriously nasty stuff read Airframe; he describes the look and smell of a blood soaked airplane...and a severed head.

Well, it's not so much an incredibly scary book, but Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted is pretty good, specifically, the short story "Guts." To give you an idea of how engrossing (no pun intended) the story is, people pass out when he reads it live. Just dont eat beforehand and you should be fine.

[Edit] - Also, "Playboy" refused to print it when they wanted to see it to promote his book, so that should tell you something.

This other suggestion isn't really horror, but it will turn people's stomaches. Get a copy of a Modest Proposal. To put it bluntly it's about canabilism, doesn't that make your mouth water? Believe if you read that all the way through you'll have people that will have trouble eating if not keeping what they have eaten down.

hmmm, Find a Copy of Parasite Eve by Hideaki Sena. Its a Japanese novel that JUST made it to American Shore this year, and it was written 11 years ago. It goes into the most graphic details on some things in the book.

Hee, hee...Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift (I think...) was funny than gross to me. But if you want something old and nasty, look up the Donner Family...

You could try Walpole's Castle of Otranto (it's the first gothic novel ever written), or pretty much anything by Poppy Z. Brite. Her stuff is frequently described as being material "you can't unread".

Michael Chrichton is the king of gore, The Sphere, Jurrasic Park, The Lost World, and IIRC, Timeline are all fairly gory. I love those books.
