will any cart. slot work with any N64?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

can any cart. slot work with any N64, or does it have to be the one that came with the n64 it was attached to?

As long as it's 50 pin 0.1" pitch it should work.

You can use a cart slot from another N64 as a replacement for yours. I sent one to someone on the forums a few months ago, it works fine.
