New to forums and need advice.

Hi, my names Sam. I wanted to make a portable n64 I had a couple ideas and i was wondering if you guys could supply me with a "bill of materials" Stuff you need ie. battery, screen ect. also good places to get them costwise.

N64 console (and controller,and any other items you want. - ebay - ~$30
Screen (choice of Hip screen, handheld tv, PSOne screen) - KB Toys, ebay and RadioShack - $25-65
Wire - RadioShack
Case - .... Build one or buy one other members can fill in.

Thats about it, except for the basic tools like wire stripes, solder, solderin iron and desoldering iron.

Screen i was stuck between Gamecube and ps1 screen, Gamecube = less splicing of wires, ps lower voltage more playtime.

Please correct me if I am incorrect about any of the following.

I've also heard from other members that the GC screen looses pixels, and its poorly made. The PSOne screen is by far a superior product for its price.

If you look hard enough you can find then in you town, at a store (check toy r us) and the old fall back is ebay. I personal got lucky and got a PSOne and a screen for $58 at a store in the local flea market.

What about heat how would i keep this cool?

Edit: doomportables.org does not work, at all like it doesnt load....

Ah... You're Canadian too. I live ~ 1 hour away from toronto, every hear of Oshawa? Also I think as long as you leave a few airholes, the temp. should be fine.

Many have replaced the heat sinks on the N64 with pc versions.

Unfortunatly, the doomportables server dosnt like certain people. Doomportables is a great site when it works. It really sucks you cant get to it though...

I either us a proxy, or use googles cache of the site to get around the problem...

Interesting, I am thinking about making some concept designs done while im in school, (cause I get bored in class) me and a friend couple acctually started talking about this one week ago. Then i found this site which is awesome, And i need some info on buying things on ebay, are they are rip off or are most good?

Two things can help you avoid cheats.

Read the discription in total so you know all info the sell has written, if you want to know more dont hessitate to ask a question.

And look at the seller's comments from buys and the overall ratting. I'd say if they're 95% or over with a couple hundred or more they your good, if they have less than 90% and less than 100 comments be cousious about them, their new and may make mistakes or do other thing wrong.

More ebay advice:

watch a few auctions, maybe for a week or so, to see what the going rate is (price + shipping) before buying something that you are sure is a good deal. Sometimes you'll find out later that it wasn't such a good deal - it has happened to me more than once.

For instance: PSOne screens. Over about the last 6 months they have been going for anywhere from $50-$60 plus $10-15 shipping. But lately the prices seem to be dropping. I bought two last week for about $39 each plus $15 shipping. I thought it was a good deal, but then I've noticed that there seem to be a lot selling in the $35 - $40 with less shipping than what I paid.

I don't know how to explain this specific price fluctuation for PSOne screens - could be an increase in supply - cheaper screens into the market (toys-r-us clearances, for example) but that has happened before in the past and the prices didn't really drop. Or it could be just a decrease in demand (just finished up the holidays, new consoles and handhelds out so people aren't so interested in PSOne anymore, etc). Those are just a couple of guesses on my part. But the moral of the story is to watch for a while before pulling the trigger.
