good skipless media player?

i don't know if it's just my computer, but when i use itunes, there's ginormous base distortion which makes music impossible to listen to. winamp does the same thing but not quite as bad as itunes. VLC media player has perfect quality without any distortion what so ever, but it skips a lot when i'm doing other stuff on the computer. is it the same for you guys? is there any way to make winamp not have any distortion or is there a better media player that doesn't distort or skip?

Thats just gotta be your compy then, i mean i can play UT 2004, listen to an mp3, have like 10 IE windows open with tons of IM windows open and have nothing lag, skip, or anything. Plus i notice no distortion at all....your speakers might be blown

Make sure the equalizer isn't on in iTunes...

Yeah, for some reason iTunes and Quicktime for me are playing everything at twice the speed it normally goes... Sorry for taking over the thread, but still...

That happened for my friend, he was broadcasting on FaceWAN radio, and he heard it normal, yet it was broadcasting twice as fast. I'm not sure what he did to fix it.

im sure the preamp was up too high. either that, or the master volume is way high and the player volume is high as well...

The quality of the sound processing of both the Winamp and the Windows Media Player equalizer is extremely low. Don't use it if you don't want screwed music... Better to use an extern equalizer if you really wanna adjust your sound. Winamp is better than windows media player though.

I know no sound card that can live up to the standards of a good sound system (meaning a Denon or a Yamaha or another good brand).

That can very well be, but I'm sure it's not as good as a real sound system. Usb sound systems are pretty good too though.

How much ram do you have? What speed is your cpu, It could be a hardware problem..

I'm getting a Klipsch ProMedia GMX 5.1-D soon. It has S/PDIF in, which can be directly connected to my computer (which has built-in S/PDIF inputs and outputs). As soon as I get that e-mailâ€¦

I've never heard of S/PDIF before but the GMX 5.1-D looks quite impressive. I've read the specs at Klipcsh.com .

I need to get myself a decent 5.1 set sometime... The one I have now sucks so I use my Stereo amplifier.
