That sounds too simple to call it making your own game system, more like trimming a laptop and running emulators on it. That is a lot more possible.

Like I said this will be a mule system to start out with. But isnt that what a game system is anyways, a basic computer. trimmed down if you will. And no it isnt just running emulators i want to get rid of windows, or just modify it enough so all it can do is play games. But im going to say it again this is just a mule system that I can test the stability of the programs I will be putting on it.

Back in the day, consoles were different from PCs. In fact, some PCs were just consoles in disgiuse. Now, for some odd reason, companies are making pc's and calling them consoles... that doesn't make all of them PC's....

Too messy, didn't read. So you are putting a laptop into a console shaped case and calling it a console? Right. I'm off then.

My god. You have no idea how an OS works do you. Windows has HAL. There is no way you will write an OS, especially if you want sometihng like HAL to allow operation on multiple different kinds of hardware.

Harshboy, it's a SpamBot.
Also, best of luck to you with making a shell that runs off windows. AKA; I just gave you a hint on what to do.

To all Forum 42 posters,
Gravedigging! Sorry, but since I am trying to help with this project I just wanted to give notice that the better idea is to use Linux, as it is free. Also, I encourage people to join the forums mentioned earlier in this topic. Even if all you have to offer a game, that is good, positive support that this thing could really use. Thanks, Gis.

well thanks gump. i really appreciate your attitude towards this project. And I would like to tell you that I am well on my way to desighning my own windows shell. Well mostly modifying others, as it is a giant task that would only be made more complicated if i did it all by myself. But anyways, I still need a stable program to run my games, im out there looking and have turned up some possible results. But now for the cool part, the program i am modifying is like the windows "room" shell exept I am completley dumping any program that would have any thing of the least to do with like word and such, now for the part I am most impressed with I have made the movement controlls run off a small wireless joystick controller (well it will be wireless when i get around to it). that has 4 mercury switches, ( and yes i did get the idea off of one of atari's desighns), but anyways no it cant do anything exept move your virtual character around.. you still have to use a number pad I have hooked up for the acctuall buttons to enter rooms and such, the desighn for the controller is still in its early stages of its life as it is the most brittle thing I have ever produced and it is kinda jumpy, and the look of the thing is still horrid,( it is made out of an old broom handle ), but yea I will post pics on it later further on in its development. Oh and I have scrapped the laptop idea because I got the laptop and it worked really well, so now I am using it, so the basis of my mule system is three comps i have frankinstiend together and magically resurected. But yea thats all the new uptdates i have to give , i would still like to see some feed back.

Do you mean shell as in a shell, as in shell script shell? Windows prior to NT used a Dos shell. Now they use MSCommand Promt. Not not open source, how can you be editing it?
