Yes, PC processors need to be married to a multi-layer PCB. Meaning, those traces you see represent a single layer out of four or six. Sorry sameguy, but, based on what I have observed, you are incapable of accomplishing your current goal.

I don't know much about this, but it seems to me the thing is going to be a PC with a little modification, but not many peices put togather to make up a console. Or I could be wrong. This topic is very vague.

Or could I possibly make my own replacement shell. I have heard of it being done, is it really that hard ?

It doesn't matter, you won't get the processor to work without a motherboard designed for it. And you can't make one, its too hard.

It is impossible if you're trying to make a motherboard for that processor. Any encouragement would be false hope. Find an easier processor or just use a small pc motherboard and run windows or linux on it.

Wait, you mean software? Sorry bub, but if you plan on manufacturing these things there's no way you can use Windows.

As for hardware, get a z80 or a Propeller chip, or go out and buy PC motherboards. You're not going to be able to make a motherboard that can work with a PC processor. Even if you coulld, you're not just "programming the chip", you need storage media, memory, and firmware. From what you've posted, you think this is far more simple than it really is.

Look at the BlackBox, for example. Months in the making around a Propeller chip, and I don't think there's anything interactive running on it yet (though I haven't checked their forum in a while...)

Basically, from what you've posted, you sound like you don't know a thing about building hardware. It's a lot more complicated than you make it sound. Sounds like you'd be better off with a Mini-ITX motherboard with USB controllers that loads Linux and the game programs off flash storage media.

I'd go for a Z80 if I were you. It's really easy to get and there's lots of information about it on the net. You'll find that it is very hard making 3D games on a custom processor (by which I mean not used in PC's).

You'd best just stick with 8 bit or maximum 16 bit. If that works you could try 32 bit for your next project. A game you created yourself running on a Z80 or a propeller with a working controller would be quite an achievement already, so stick with 8 or 16

Screw Z80, use something ARM9 or above.

No you guys dont understand I have the whole laptop. Where everything is pre loaded and running fine... attachments and upgrades for better video cards and such are not impossible on this machine, hell i could use the whole laptop and just trim it down if i wanted, we'll see. Anyways, that will be later on, it already has windows running on it and i need a program to replace that that is strictly devoted to games, nothin else, now i am proposing that i could right a replacement window shell for the windows that is currently loaded on the laptop, its not impossible I have seen examples in which people have done it before, I just wanted to know if someone would be willing to help me on the progrm itself. and as for building the acctual game system .. which in everyway is a computer exept for programing and useless parts, dont worry about it, as I am talking to you guys on a home made computer right now.And no i ill not just be using the laptop it will be a gameing system in everyway , will hook up to the tv and such, ill take the screen right off and the keybored. And once i get most of the bugs worked out on that mule gameing system then i will start assembling one from comon computer parts. There I hope maybe that clears up some misconceptions that I may have accidentally have lead you to believe.
