Certain PCs can actually run OS X as well (not emulated). I used to do it with a Dell Latitude C840.

Also I decieded to run my own coparison test with regards to price of Macs... I enteted the ruff specs of a Mac book into cnet reviews and well... look for your self.

With a cracked version of 10.4 (Tiger) you can install OS X on almost any PC. I tried it once... the installer didn't see my ATA hard drives, so I wouldn't go throught with the installation.

Also anotherperson, I'd like to know how powerful those "free" programs are. I know that some programs in iLife are powerful enough to do professional work.

Oh and Lt.Shinta, please if you have something extra to add, and no one else has posted, just edit your post to add the extra information. There is no need to make 4 posts when you can just edit your first to fit all of what you had to say.

Regarding the use of Windows on a Mac I add the following. While with the windows architecture you can run XP it is not perfect. I have heard (have not tired myself) that you cant use the I-sight as well as other small features. If you want to run XP on a Mac why don't you just buy a PC. Although I love Mac's it seems a bit stupid to pay for a premium Mac and get a lesser machine. There is other features that Mac's have built in that other computers have as well. For example the MacBookPro has inbuilt motion sensor which can detect when the computer is accelerating at 9.81 m/sÂ² at which point it will turn off the hard drive to prevent data loss. Yes other laptops also have this feature but it is a nice little thing in the Mac.

I didn't read the thread (sorry) but the whole reason I'm not into Macs is customization, because your super trendy Mac, when it falls behind the curve, you can't upgrade it or anything. (Except memory, I think.) You're stuck. (Unless you feel like shelling out another 2 grand for something that's with the latest and greatest which will be old soon, aswell.)

If someone said that, my bad.

I don't like Mac hardware just because of the way Jobs markets it! He uses pop culture to have all these kids (almost annually) buy their hardware so they can be 'cool' & 'hip'! (The same applies to iPods)

But I like OSX, due to stability, & the fact that it's UNIX-Based. There's not anything bad I can say about it.

A year ago, I would have been a screaming lunatic over this whole topic. Today...

Well, I play computer games using Windows. Whether Windows is running on a MAc brand PC, or a Dell brand PC is irrelevant.

My roommate has one of those 13.3" macbooks, and I must say I'm impressed with the engineering that went into that notebook. Mac products have a nice, clean design to them nowadays.

Of course, I won't likely get a Mac in the forseable future, because I don't like to be under someone elses control. Windows behaves a little strangely on a Mac, more so than on other PC's, and I'm pretty sure we all know why.

Maintaince? Try anti-virus subscriptions, anti-malware, anti-spyware. All those are things you have to do to keep the preformance up on your comptuer, protect your information, and yeah the first two can cost money for a good program, the third well there are [free programs like] spybot and ad-aware they're not perfect so you might need both or more.

Also PCs are nice, if you know the hardware. If you don't you've got a box your'e stuck with, meaning you have to pay more money to have it upgraded and yeah that is pretty much the same with the Mac, but the mac only requires that on such systems like say the Mac Mini. The big difference with the standard PC and the Mac is that Mac is really high end or is cutting edge. Apple uses a lot of new standards like 801.1g in their laptops and airport. You alwas get a machine that will be highend hardware for at least two years.

The Mac for all descriptions is now a PC, a name brand PC. It's just as upgradable as a PC now. You want more ram, a new PCI-e video card (or any thing for that matter), add a new hard drive(s), different screen. You have some veriaty, much like PCs, this isn't like the early PPC Macs.

Also VB, PearPC only works on PPC Macs and is really bad if you have a system slower then 1.5GHz with 512MB ram (at least). If you really wanted a good emuation program go with VirtualPC.

Also, for anyone who is talking about macs, if you haven't used an intel mac, you can't talk. They are almost 100% as hardware-upgradable as "PC"'s. As my pc is custom, I know exactly what processors I can get for it (prescott and conroe, em64t as well, thus any P4 and Core2duo(Extreme)). If I were to buy a "PC" (let's say an alienware desktop for example) and a Mac (Any desktop), almost any upgrade for the "PC" I can use on the Mac.
