Getting RGB on a VGA monitor

I scored an Neo-Geo MVS cabinet (somewhat half-converted into a Mortal Kombat machine) With a 2-slot MVS mobo, Metal Slug 4, Super Sidekicks 2, & Mortal Kombat off craigslist for $50. The thing is, the "perfect condition" cabinet (as the seller prompted in an email) was practically in pieces!

Once I got it in the shed to work on (I can hopefully put it in my room once I get it working & fixed up), I opened it up & noticed that EVERYTHING was unplugged! I reconnected all the controls & stuff, & now I'm stuck at getting the CRT up & running.

The seller said that the CRT control board that's in the cab isn't the original one. Is it safe to connect it to the CRT?

If you don't know what your doing with the CRT I can highly recommend find something who does to help/explain it to you (preferably a person in the flesh not just online), those things are dangerous and you wouldn't want to score a Darwin award for touching the wrong part of it.

And I guess you might be able to replace the CRT with and LCD like Ben did for the MVS portable, I think he explains the hook up in the making of.

yeah, there's some pretty high voltage going through those things, I'd be careful, but don't be too afraid to try it out. if it goes, then you're not really out anything, since you'd have to replace it anyway.

...and you have a good lawsuit over a 'perfect' video game system.

when I say 'be careful,' I mean connect it and turn the power on from somewhere that's not near the cabinet. surge protector or switched outlet. and have a buddy around.

All this about discharging got me worried to put cap kits in my cab but I learned ony if you stick your finger in the tube will you toast.
If the connector fits properly I would connect it.

OK, after plugging in a few plugs I missed last night, I got the MVS mobo & the sound working!

About the CRT's control board, upon further examination today, I noticed that the corner of it was charred, I found no anode cap/LOPT anywhere in the cab! I'm not gonna even TRY to get the CRT working until I get a new PCB & LOPT transformer!

Does anyone know where I could get such things? (If it makes any difference, it's (I think) a 25" CRT)

Eh, I decided a few hours back to use the largest VGA monitor (I think it's 19") I could find in my mother's shed.

Does anyone here know how to get an RGB signal on a VGA monitor?

My guess would be to send the RGB & sync signals to their corresponding VGA pins, but VGA also has separate grounds for each signal, & plus I think CRT's are in the 30KHz range. Can anyone help me out on this?

If you don't get this working, I would happily pay you your $50 plus shipping to take it off you hands

I always wanted a MVS of my own

But like I said time + money +segasonicfan's site and you could "consolize" your MVS and then just use the RGB->Component to buy a cheap TV with a component video input (that is what I would do since the cab could cover it all up and I have a TV w/ component inputs)

That converts VGA to RGB, not the other way around.

You can get a cheap converter for ~$50, although the better ones are $150-$200. It'd be just about as expensive as getting a used RGB CRT in that size range and building your own case.
