I'll probly get one a year or so after launch.Unless, of course, FFVII gets rereleased on it. 8)
Edit:Wow, how did my post get up here?!

Sucks that this price change is Japan only. The US prices are currently still the same.

Playstation 3 Price Reduction? HDMI?

Post by Skyone »

Is Sony doing something good, financially?

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/21/surpr ... -from-tgs/

So far, the 20% price drop has only been confirmed for Japan, but I don't doubt that they will bring it to the US! We're talking $425 for the basic pack in the US, if the price reduction comes over here.

I haven't found if the basic plan comes with HDMI from the article, but we can assume that it does, from this quote:
In the months since, however, HDMI has solidified and has been introduced to more products. Therefore, Sony has decided to include HDMI in the console.
I think we can wait for some more news for the US release price and HDMI inclusion, but what do you guys think? I'm sure we all know Sony is finally looking in the right path, but do you think this will apply to the US an other countries?

Also, has this article changed your opinion on the console wars? Are you now considering the PS3, or will you wait till it goes down in price perhaps?

I think a poll is needed...

I don't want any Sony vs. Microsoft vs. Nintendo fights, so PLEASE do not post something like "I am never buying a PS3 because it sucks!!!" Please keep the opinions related to this news, and not past events, unless you compare them to this news.

Thanks guys!

EDIT: If you guys want my opinion, this news is pretty exciting, I feel that Sony is a true competitor - financially. I'm going to get one after the 2nd price drop (I think over a year or release date).

Because if this news i am now getting the basic pack because all i wanted the 60gb for was the hdmi port.

I am once again happy but i think i will wait for the real UK price to be announced before i make my desicion.

I'm still interested, just wasn't pleased about the price. With this I could afford a PS3. I voted for waiting a year after release, as the current PS3s that are going to be sold are rushed and first edition consoles generally have glitches or some defect. Oh and yeah a year from now I'll likely have an HDTV as a computer monitor so I'll have a way to have full resolution for the console.

How are they ever gonna make up for the losses? The console costs at least double as much to make...

Most the money made by Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft is from lisences for game to be playable on the sytems. They make a percentage of every game sold, and so they make up the differnece in lost income from the hardware from the software sales. You think the 360 only cost $400 to build, I'd say more like $1000.

I think it speaks volumes that so far 58% of the people who responded said they're not buying a PS3. Way to go Sony!

he thing that amuses me is i could buy an American PS3 for £50-£100 cheaper at the moment cos of the exchange rate

in fact at the moment $500 is around £270 which is £30 cheaper than the original Xbox at launch

P.S does anyone know the European launch price?
