Just had a brainwave. Surely car headrest moniters would be perfect? You can get them in any size from 4-7 inches. They run off low voltages and they must have a componenet input (they are designed for dvd players and ps2's after all).
They are also quite cheap because they normally come in 2 packs.
Well, depends. Are looking at the ones that strap on a head rest or are built in?
The only thing I'd be concerned about is the actual size of the components inside.
They likely run off 12v, higher than most batteries that are used in portables. I kinda doubt the component on all but the most expensive. On a screen that small in a bumpy car that hardly gets watched it won't matter that much.
Either strap on or built in, aslong as they are aftermarket items.
These units are desighned to be used with ps2's or dvd players, that means that they MUST have some external input, they would be useless otherwise. Composite being the most basic i would be pretty certian that they have it.
The larger screens would run off 12v but i would assume that the smaller (4") units would use a lower internal voltage.

How cheap, exactly? Any specific ones you mean? It's been a few months, but I did some research into them and never found any quite cheap enough to be feasible for portable projects.
