System dies when SNES power hooked up

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

System dies when SNES power hooked up

Post by Kurt_ »

Same post, different topic, only one useless response.

I wanted to do some testing. So I disconnected the SNES +5V so if I fried something I would mess up only the screen which I believed to be already messed up and not the super nintendo.

However the system (Screen batteries gauge and such) works when the SNES +5Vin is disconnected.

All I did recently (that I haven't undid) was move the controller port. I hooked up pins 1-4 and 7, skipping the 2 on each side which are ground, the same as 7. Should I hook these up or will it make no difference?

No sodler or anyhting is on the board. THe protection circuit keeps the system from frying.

Is there something bridges to ground or something?

What would cause the system to engage the protection circuit when the SNES is hooked up? And it's not overvoltage/current or anything of the sort. It works just fine except for the fact that it currently doesn't. If that makes sense.

Maybe you're putting too high a voltage into them. what are you running things off of?

Nevermind. It's a short. Any ideas where I should start looking? I can't find it.

the little black box like thing soldered next to the big white fuse, remove that and put 5 volts directly into both spot were the 7805 was no where elseand just wire the ground up to the grounding strips

Are you sure this will do it? The rectifier, althuogh not use anymore, hardly seems harmful.

Well somehow I got it working for a few seconds. The ohms went from 0.7 (shorted, my multimeter sucks) to about 2-3. It worked then. However it didn't last long. The controller port is COMPLETELY removed, and it still doesn't do much. Would disconnecting/reconnecting everything do anything?

BUMP!

When the system DOES work, mario skips to the file select menu and you can't do anything. If the problems are related, where would I look on the board where the file select whatever happens.
