First of all, this is the SNES forum.most fans don't really care what voltage you give them, they will just run faster or slower than normal (and make more or less noise).

I'm sure when he asks for power he either means the volts + amps or just watts. IIRC it draws ~60mA @ 12V

They NEED no power, you can provide as little or as much as you want. It will just go faster or slower.

You decline to mention that too much can blow the fan. Fans are rated for optimal settings, a compromise between function and life of the fan.

Yeah, well I guess you learn through experience. Me, I just put fans into cases. + to + and - to -. Can never fail with that logic

I estimate that the gamecube fan uses about 150-250mA at maximum. You can lower the current consumption by just running it at something like 7-10 volts instead of 12.
As a rule of thumb, with these square brushless fans, the power consumption is always very low, usually below .5 amps. There are a few exceptions, but those kinds are so powerful you won't be using them in portables unless you've got a fan fetish.
