Also, does anybody really seriously think that Nintendo would close it's doors if it weren't making a game console?

If they are run by a bunch of idiots this would happen, but I don't think they are.

I think they could do quite well selling games as a third party on the other systems. Look at the install base of the PS2 for instance. Just think if they could have sold Zelda and Mario games for that.

It's interesting to think about anyway.

I prefer having them in the race though. A 3 horse race (even if the one horse is a little suspect) is better than a 2 horse race any day of the week.

totokan wrote:Look, people HAVE to stand behind nintendo, ben. If they don't, they'll never make a game again! Unlike sega, who now makes software only, Nintendo's policy is no consoles, no games. So if we don't stand behind nintendo, we'll be living in a world oversaturated with GTA clones and consoles that have graphics like "OMG, I can see the sweats on the guys's face!!1!111" with little to no innovation elseware. You can see nintendo leading the way to innovation, with their crazy control scheme, which has prompted sony to make something like that with their PS3. If you say that was not a copy-cat thing, look at the wavebird. FIRST EVER 1st PARTY WIRELESS. Now, everyone has it. Why? Because nintendo succeeeded with it and M$ and Sony finally realized that they stand to make more money selling controllers without wires to people who sit ten inches from their 1280P widescreen tv.
Then again, maybe people don't want innovation...? The 360 is the same 'awesome graphics, little else' console, but it seems to be doing well.
EDIT: Sorry, I went off on a rant on a topic I said I wouldn't join in on...
"first ever first party wireless controllers"? *cough*

Nintendo leading the way in innovation? There have been computer mice that use accellerometers like the Wii Riimote that don't need a sensor bar for years! (In fact I think someone made one into a PC compatible light gun...)

I don't know. To me this screams "power glove! power glove!"

And if they're innovating, how come we have had to save Princess _____ from the evil _____ who took over the ______ Kingdom for the last 20 years? You would think they could come up with something new. But no, instead we've had to lead [Mario/Kirby/Link] on his quest to save the day... Again and again and again.... Relying on 20+ year old franchises sounds like serious backpedalling to me.

Meh. I give up. Obviously, I was wrong about the controllers. I didn't know that. Jones, nintendo has stated they would stop if they don't make consoles. Also, I know nintendo isn't the only one with innovation, but they are currently the most innovative. Of the last gen, the xbox was the most innovative, with its internal HD. The GC and ps2 were just the 'next step up'. One gen before, the ps1 was innovative with its CD games (not the first, but the most known/mainstream). What of the ps3 is innovation? Nothing, it's just a mix and match of other consoles ideas, with a new disc format. This is probably the PS3's strongest point- Blue-ray. 600 dollars is CHEAP for a blue-ray player, and you also get a strong game console included as well FOR FREE. Yeah, that's right, a blue-ray player with a free console, not the other way around, as I'm sure the blu-ray is more expensive then the rest of the console put together. But, also good about this, Blu-ray games. 50GB on a DL disk means 1 disk can hold every NES,SNES, and a whole lotta n64 games on it. Or, all the disks of any multi-disk ps2 game.
Shhh! I'm not officially back yet.

Me and my friend always said that if nintendo stopped making consoles, we would love to see some zelda games for sony systems. (now microsoft, since PS3 is so expensive.) we wanna se an M rated legend of zelda, heads flying, blood and guts, ganon running around with a machine gun (Black box, anyone? :D ) but does anyone know twilight princess's release date?

If I'm not mistaken, that's to turn the conroller on and off. Wouldn't want to run the batteries out on the first day...

Actually, I think Nintendo mentioned something about it being a dual power on, for console and controller. Plus, seeing as it is a remote, the power button is so aptly placed to turn on a console...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking it would do. It makes sense. That's probably my favorite new addition from the old Xbox controller, hopefully the Wii has it, too.
