Bike brakes

I'm runing front and rear disks and I will say they are a tad expensive to maintain, but when you need to stop they stop. There was one time I was flying downhill and had to stop for a school bus (was doing atleast 28mph). My brakes got so hot I tried to touch them and I burnt the tip of my finger but the heat didn't make them fade or anything.

It really depends on how you ride and where you ride though.

you need to buy a special rim to put disc brakes on and then u might even have to change the front forks all very expensive and not worth might as well get a new bike

Fellow bikers! Sweet. Anybody do any night riding (with KITT of course...)? I just recently got some LED lights for my bike, and have been out near midnight biking around. It's fantastic. Feels so good to be on your own power biking anywhere you care.

Regarding the first post, I have those brakes in the first pic on my Giant mountain bike. I believe they are called "U" brakes. The ones in the second are called "V" brakes I think. (This is all from other people, so it might be wrong info) They came after the U brakes to replace them. They work better from what I hear. I've been thinking of upgradin because mine have been "squealing" whenever I use them. And the brake pads are still good as far as I ca tell.

I got all the new parts fitted and adjusted, but since I have no leadlight handy I can't test them too extensively today (Which is over in a half hour anyways...

).

Yeah, they're V brakes. Diatech DP9-Pro handles paired with their 777 calipers. Honestly the hardest part of this project was getting the grips off. (The grip shifter and brake handle perches all slide onto the bare handlebars). All that's left to do is tighten the front fork (it needed it anyways).

I've got a couple of those old generator light sets. Maybe I can rig some sort of dual headlight system with them and a few AAs. The generators never worked well for me, even with a mountain bike. They're noisy and can't power the lights when you're stopped.

I think safety is worth the $45.

My brakes are total crap, I hardly use them so that if they do fail completely (not far to go), I'm not used to them and I'm coasting anyways. Infact, my whole bike is messed up. I think the back rim got bent somehow, the handles are loose from a crash a while ago (they twist back when I'm riding, I need to tighten them), and now it sounds like something is messed up with my front spokes.

I should take it all the way apart and put it back together to see if it'll fix anything.

My bike is ancient, but it gets me from point A to point B. It doesn't even have hand brakes, back-peddling is the only form of brake it has

Don't trust garbage men in Idaho. Also, don't leave your Pokemon and Yugioh cards in the rain. They turn weird colors and smell like a gym class full of axe.

have you tried tightining the cables until taping them locks em up?
my sisters bike has those brakes and she couldnt stop til i tightened them
