Once you pass 2gb, what you're buying is conveniece. Rather have to add and replace music later on down the road, you can keep a great deal of your library with you at all times and simply pick and choose what you're lsitening to. I've also seen over 4GB of music from a friends of iPod, and he listens mainly to stuff like AC/DC, Metallica, Areosmith, Godsmack, eminem, ect. The biggest adantage to having over 2GB storage for music is that you can listen to music that suits your mood.

Meh, yeah, I guess... With that much space (20-40GB as seen in most MP3 players) you can also use it as a mass storage device (like a USB thumb drive/pen drive/whatever) for other files. Plus you could put your ENTIRE music collection on it, to save lots and lots of hard drive space on your computer, or just to have a back-up. Yeah, I understand that... uhoh... I'm starting to think about alternatives!

Cool player, I like how most of the Creative MP3 players have metal cases, makes them much harder to destroy externally. And yeah go for the larger capacity, I mean that adds up to about a buck per extra GB how can you go wrong

. I just ordered a Buslink iBot
for 53.99 post paid off ebay, yes I know it has less than one GB, but guess what my entire music collection is less than one GB

! It was a toss up between the iBot and a 1 GB Nano clone from ebay, what won me over was the internal speakers on the iBot plus it was slightly cheaper. And if I ever find myself really needing the space in a year or two (by which time Nano clone prices will have dropped some) I will just buy the clone for about the same price and be huge geek and carry both!

Probably. All I know is iPod is expensive, yet it's battery lifespan is short. Like my laptop and basically anything I buy that doesn't use good old AA/AAA/C/D/9V/etc. batteries and instead opts to use rechargable lithium Ion batteries.

Ah nice link but Lady Ada's design would work better as all iPods (after 3G) and really all other MP3 players use USB. Be sure to check her site to see if the charger work with your MP3 player.

well for most 4 gigs isnt enough to store all of their music.

i know that i personally may only listen to 10 or so bands at a time (i go through fazes) but sometimes i'm just in the mood to turn on something heavier like the RHCP or something, and at those times its nice to have my 12 gig collection of music.

Also, quality has a lot to do with how much space you need. I hook up my ipod to speakers quite a bit and play it in the car, so i need atleast a good 256 kbps...

Im looking at a Creative Zen touch right now, and I would say save your money. Im actually not using it, because it would take hours to half work on my linux. As for iPod... I have already used 3+ on my machine, and they have all worked just fine. I say throw down the 169 bucks for a "referbished" 4gen 20 gig. It will be brand new, mostly because it would be impossible for them to sell the entire old stock of outdated units.

this is coming from someone who has used both products for extended periods of time.

I'd suggest against this model though if you have the money to spare. I'd get either the Creative Zen Vision:M or an iRiver H100/H300 or an iAudio X5 or 6.

They all have great audio quality, large capacities, long battery life, and they aren't iPod.

That is if you haven't already gotten the Xtra.

sandisk sansa e270 6GB = 185$
Ipod nano 4GB = 250$
sandisk sansa e250 2gb = 125$
ipod nano 2gb = 197$

the sansa is barely bigger than the nano,
1.74" W x 3.5" L x 0.56" D VS 1.6" W x 3.5" L x 0.27" D honestly why get a nano at all when this is more for less money!

FYI, that thing is over 2 times as thick as the nano - hardly "barely bigger"
