So I'm finally going to buy an mp3 player

I haven't decided if I should get the 30 gb one for $120 (US), or the 40 gb one for just $10 more. Here's the stats on it, straight from the Creative Labs site:

I'm just glad you're not getting an iPod. Getting a Creative is icing on the cake! That model looks fantastic and at a good price, too!

What Luc said! Creative is sweet, and I HATE the Ipod. I have a Creative Zen Micro that I absolutely LOVE (although it's having problems right now...). However, after seeing this one for so cheap and an assload of memory, I may have to do some upgrading!

Yeah with ipods you're mostly paying for the trend IMO. I'm paying less then the price of a 1gb nano so it's like I'm getting 39 GB's of space for free.

I decided to go with the 40. Better to have the space and not use it than to run out.

creative one are great, i have a 20Gb Zen (npt a micro though) which i picked up for £150 a year or two back, it was either pay £135 for a 6Gb Zen micro or pay £15 more and get 20 gb

go for the 40

Creative's have great battery life becuase they're mono colour and dont prancing around with video or pictues which is good in my opinion, if i had an ipod video id stil lnoly put music on it

although you can get a picture/video creative thing anyways

Well you got a good music player, Creative was the only other MP3 hard drive player I was looking at. So I know they have good stuff. You buy it at a store or online, or ebay? I know Creative has an ebay store where they sell referbished units (really nice prices).

And Wallydawg, iPods are not all style. I bought mine as it played MP3s, phots and videos. As I saw it buying the iPod video was worth what I paid. And I'm making this statement to be clear I don't agree with your opinion that iPods are little more then style. I don't want this to turn into a Creative vs Apple debate.

Well i for one had a horrible experience with a Ceative Zen Xtra.

The program that it comes with for organizing music absolutely sucks, iTunes is 10 times better, and if you arent careful with a creative, you are screwed. I dropped mine 3 feet onto carpet and the hard drive broke and i was left out in the dark because the warrenty that they gave me was only 6 months. I'm suprised that it even lasted that long though.

Say what you want about ipods, but they look cool, have a nice screen, great wheel interface, and never break down.

With an iPod, it's not the 'brand name' as you all say it is, it's the reliability and the quality control. That's why all these cheap ones are so cheap, the parts are low quality and thus cost less money to manufacture. I have an iPod mini and a creative Nomad (It's an SMC based media player. I think it's SMC. Whichever card the GP32 uses, it uses that one). My Nomad is ancient, and yet it still works using AAA batteries. The mini's built-in battery now has an effective lifespan of 15 minutes. </rant>

thats making a generalization, your paying more for the ipod because of the name, components are components. your paying 300$ for an ipod or whatever because its an ipod, the popularity and brand recognition are why its so damn expensive, just like how a new imac costs 1200$ and an equivalent PC, nearly the same hardware (cpu, ram ammount, hdd size etc) can cost more than 400 dollars less, just because its apple and apple is so good, pisses me off, go cheap or go away! if i were to get a dedicated mp3 player i would get a DAH1500 cube or a m-cody m22 whenever they come stateside and totokan wow, you totally changed gears right in the middle of your post lol, was the ipod bit scarcasm?

yeah, creative is good. i'd say 40gb. it's much more storage for your money than an ipod.

I just use my PSP as my MP3 player, since I hardly have any music. Plus, the screen's way better for watching the CAD animated series.

But I know few people that don't own iPods. It's sad how popular apple has become... maybe OSXI will beat out Vista! Or maybe the iPods will just continue to dominate the market and apple computers will remain unsold.

They're less than an inch square, they're uncommon, and they're very stylish IMO. They only come in 512MB, 1GB and 2GB sizes, but I can't imagine wanting more than 2GB on music on there at once. I'd never hear the same song more than once! I enjoy that!

Once you pass 2gb, what you're buying is conveniece. Rather have to add and replace music later on down the road, you can keep a great deal of your library with you at all times and simply pick and choose what you're lsitening to. For some people that's not a selling point, which is fine. For me, it is, and I'm actually getting a sweet deal on a Creative Zen Sleek (maybe photo) for christmas this year. Sweeeeeet.
