Yes, that's right, all PSP firmwares have homebrew now!
Apparently 2.8 does not have kernal mode homebrew, so DON'T UPDATE if you want the chance to have a downgrader!

Haha, I got rid of my PSP a week ago for a DS, now I hear about this.

Still, I love my DS more then the PSP.

But for all the people with 2.7+ (like I did) this is pretty awesome.

I think the PSP is overpriced. You could have a DS lite and two or three games for the price of a PSP (It's still 300, right?).

Krep, why would this make you want to buy a PSP? If you buy a version 2.6 or below (that isn't a TA082 mobo) you can download it to 1.5, which in turn can emulate all firmwares up to 2.7 and also play any homebrew you throw at it. Not to mention it can also load up custom firmwares which allow you to not auto boot UMD's and autoconnect when USB cable is attached.

I'm not saying this isnt a nice breakthrough for n00bs who upgraded, but i dont understand why it would make you want to buy a PSP...

The first thing I did after I ran this was to check the network update. Surprisingly, 2.81 doesn't exist yet.

I think it's funny how libtiff is listed as one of the contributors.

I tried to open it up in the gimp to try to figure out what made it work and it crashed... so the GIMP must use libtiff too. I'll have to update that.

EDIT: Fanjita, psp250, Skylark, cswindle,JoeK, jim and NOPX86 are truly gods among men.

And so is whoever documented the libtiff bug.

Use a TIFF disassembler to get the source, it's all hand-coded ASM as Fanjita said at QJ forums.

In the US, the value pack was $250, but now, in some locations, it is around $230. Core pack is still $200 although lots of rumors talk about price dropping soon to $150.

Still, at $200, I think it is a GREAT deal with what you can do with it. I had my PSP at 2.01 when I first got it, then jumpped to 2.50 and then 2.60. Downgrader came, dropped to 1.50, and now I have so much fun playing SNES/NES/Genesis/SMS/MAME and lots of great homebrew games like trigonometry wars and PSParty. I like the DS as well, don't get me wrong...mario, nintendogs, metroid prime hunters, metroid pinball, etc., but in terms of homebrew, the PSP took my heart!
