making a case

I have never really done anything with a soldering iron (well, i did once, but that was years back, and all that did was make these little leds blink), and i was thinking about making that portable genesis because it looks easy (well, maybe not too easy, but it does look easier than the portable ps2), plus genesis is my favorite game system. before i devote any time or money to this, I was wondering: how do you make the case? do you melt down plastic or something?

vacume form, franken case (my favroute because i have no money) CNC (what ben does) or a box.

vacume form envolves making a vacume form table, getting inexpensave plastics heating it up putting it over a mold vacuming it to fit then cooling to the final shape.

franken case find parts of case and plastics that you like and cut and gule every thing to fit right (looks better once painted)

CNC. a computer controled cutting thingy cuts blocks of plastic in to peaces you asemble your self

and a box... find a box and mount every thing to the inside of it.

Yeah, dollar store portables rock you. Seriously, how many of us haven't taken a dollar store plastic box for some sort of project case?

There is also my modular concept, which is assembling stock components into a fabricated case, so that if one part fails, you can quickly swap it out.

If you are going to do serious modding, like needed on the Radica, you should go for one of the above suggestions, though....
