Needed: Mega Key or Nitro Adapter for Genesis

Post by SgtBowhack »

If anyone has one of these or knows where to get them, please, please, help out! These are cartridges that allow people to control region settings independently (i.e. without touching the Genesis itself). It would be fantastic if someone could get their hands on this thing, so we could reverse-engineer it (if possible) and add it to the design of the Exodus. With one of these, near 100% compatibility isn't too unreasonable.

Or, if someone in the UK is willing, http://www.robwebb.clara.co.uk/shop/meg ... adrive.htm is selling them. If one person gets it and makes the diagrams, we can all benefit here. I'm also looking into taking apart my Game Joy and seeing how the switches are attached to the cart slot (since, if I'm understanding this correctly, I don't think the region settings would need to go anywhere else).

OK, I apparently can't get into the Game Joy without those teeny tiny jeweler's screwdrivers (which I don't believe we have here, but I'll check later). If the circuit is simple and I can trace it by sight, then I guess we won't need the adapters, but somehow I don't trust myself (or this thing, for that matter).

Cool. Many thanks. I opened up the Game Joy and it was indeed a GOAC called ATT6005. Information on it is pretty much non-existant. I took a few pics too. Apparently the region switch is wired to the ATT6005, so I'm not sure if the region settings on the Genesis are as mechanical as I thought (though I can't imagine why they'd go to a whole lot of trouble about it...) So in any case, we'll still probably need the Mega Key or an equivalent to glean some info into how the regions are set.

Does this mean you have the adapter or was that just completely non-sequitor?
