Anyone here use the Dvorak keyboard layout?

QWERTY is too hard wired into my mind for me to switch at this point to change. I'll stick to qwerty.

My friend once bought a keyboard at a garage sale not knowing that there was any difference in the types. He took it home, and couldn't get it to work right. I come over, check the drivers and decide to test it. I test out the keyboard in the browser and random crap pops up and I'm spazzing out and my friend's getting all mad because it's not working right, I look down and smacked him upside the head because he'd gotten the wrong keyboard. I tried to get used to it but ended up getting frusterated and telling him to buy a new one.

You'd be surprised, I've used Qwerty since I learned to type in Kindergarten with Mario Teaches Typing (awesome game btw), and I've gotten up to around 40 WPM in Dvorak in the past 2 months or so, and getting faster daily!

How much is and where could I find one of these? I'd like to try out one of these for fun. I can type about 60-70 WPM on the QWERTY though.

I'm getting an IBM model M with removable keys from my friends brother soon so I might try out dvorak.

Same here. I've got college, people who ask me to fix their computers and oh yeah two laptops I cant change the keypad on, so until I'm in a situation where I'm not going to have to switch to QWERTY more often then use DVORAK, I'm holding off. I have really considered it, a lot, but with me going back to QWERTY so much it'd be like "What's the point?"

Dvorak rules, it's so much faster, but I'm pretty much with Sparkfist, if I only used Dvorak I would be fine, but in the world qwerty is standard(stupid btw) so you almost can't avoid using it. And switching back and forth leads to mistakes where you type the key on a dvorak board when you are on qwerty and vice versa.

I tried doing it once, got around 90+wpm on dvorak, but then i was always switching between the 2, so when ever I used one after the other, it took me a couple hours to get back used to it and not make the mistakes.

Maybe one day in the future when i won't have to use qwerty still, I'll change back to dvorak.

Another porblem is that I PC game, and the key layout doesn't work with the Dvorak layout. I know I can change the settings, but that's a pain with every new game I get. Also, my school and just about everyone else in the country uses QWERTY. And also, most of my typing is reserved to the internet and coding. And with coding, it's better to pace yourself so that you don't make mistakes.

However, does Dvorak help any with carpal tunnel?

Yes actually, because I have to type on qwerty at school, so it's good practice between the two.
