Aw man how did people find this? Shoot... Well I took it down for now. I mostly put it up to share the "chip smasher" story with a friend. And sadly, it's true - I was warned of 'chip smashers"

I have the new Xbox MB re-hacked back to where the old one was, along with some new "precautions" However I won't test it til tomorrow since my big computer seems to have just died and I'm feeling "jinx-y"

Anyone have any suggestions for an inbetween replacement PC? Probably need a new MB, CPU, memory and maybe PSU. I'm torn between making something really great and something just to get by. I'm moving (a whole 10 blocks) next month so I can't go cash-wild, but like 300-400 on Tiger Direct is doable.

Moving up from:

Athlon 2400 XP
1 gig RAM

Maybe some 3000-4000, AMD 64 bit? Just needs to still be good enough for DV (what isn't, shoot used to do that on a 500) but I don't need HD editing power just yet.

Ben, I'd get an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. They came out a few weeks ago and they are dual-core, fast, and cheap. You can buy a ~$300 chip that is roughly equivalent to AMD's FX-62 (which is ~$800). And I know you know this already, but get as much ram as you can afford (within reason).

The big "fuss," as you put it, is that the site's server WILL crash if word of this gets out. It has done so before, and it will do so again.

When things get leaked on such a small server, bandwidth gets destroyed. If Ben hadn't pulled the pages, the bandwidth would be F'd in the A.

There's not even remotely close FINISHED PHOTOS on those pages, so who cares?

Got my big PC working, gonna try and figure out what happened. I blame ghosts / electrical storms.

Well, if you need an in-between PC then why not use the MGD one? Or was that one junked?

Oh, and I will most likely have my server up in the next couple of days (My original intention were to get it up and running tomorrow, but I may have plans that will get in the way of this). I would be willing to take some of the bandwidth on a couple of the images if it would help at all. I don't know how much a home server box could help, but it is running on it's own separate cable internet connection (for some reason we got a modem for the internet and they sent us one for the digital cable).

I'll help anyway I can, and I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for this thing to come out.

And Ben why dont you just custom build your own computer? Its usually pretty cheap to do so and you get one awesome computer as the outcome.

The Xbox 360 laptop has re-risen from its grave. Yippee.

Having a controller binding problem, will test some stuff. The wireless controller I got in June has been a bit wanky, didn't connect to Jones's 360, and now doesn't connect to this new MB.

Other than that, things look good. Ripped a Foreigner CD to the drive.

Since most of you now know, by finding my hidden page, that it is indeed water-cooled, I may as well confess that the water cooling was the big "slowdown" factor. Figuring out how to fill everything "bubble-free", wrangling the hose (inside something much smaller than a typical water-cooled full-sized PC cabinet) making a reservoir that didn't break (it increases total volume of water 33%) and then even a leak in the radiator.

I finally had luck with a PVC reservoir, but after dumping and filling the system probably a good 10 times, a small bit of water found its way down the outer edge of a tube and slide on top of the GPU next to the die. ZAPPO there goes those little IC's and dead Xbox.

So with this new one I have rubber dams to stop water / condensation on the outside of the tubes, plus sponges if that should fail.

If all goes well and God smiles on me, it might be done this coming week! I also have to finish the story, what you saw on the site was from early July, there's a lot more stuff since then I have yet to document. (case building, welding, etc)

Very likely I'd wait til Friday (September 1st) for bandwidth reasons. Also the trailer for "Echoes of the Past", the ghost documentary, releases the exact same time.
