ive been on some other forums, and several have adopted the practise of "flagging" (or whatever else you want to call it), whereby the user is still able to post, but their avatar and sig get changed to something like a picture that says "I AM AN IDIOT" for a set period of time. perhaps this could be inserted somewhere between "last warning" and "first ban".

that is a great idea.

Hmm that might work if used properly but I think they need something more restricting... Really though the mods do a pretty good job it's just all of the people around here make stupid posts all the time and well you guys just can't keep up with all of them.

the problem with flagging is that it could be abused or misused or unfairly used. that would cause problems.
i'd also like to add that i havn't seen any problems since this thread was made. if it stays the way it was the last 2 weeks i'm happy. though i have noticed that it was pretty lenient 2 years ago when everybody was happy

Well, as long as it takes multiple flags for it to work, I think it would be fine. One guy can be a dick and flag a thread for no reason, but if more than one person has to flag it then you can usually count on the group to make a fair decision.

Though I do think it's unneccessary.

I actually really like the idea of a forum for new people to introduce themselves, as it would help them get adjusted to how things work around here and what is generally considered acceptable on this forum. They could also get many of their nooby questions out of the way before posting in the other forums. Perhaps this would degrade into a forum filled with spam, but I think it would be worth a shot.

An oldtimer forum would be great to see, but it would be extremely hard to maintain, it seems. I would think it would be tough to separate people into "new" and "old" categories, as some people who have been around awhile still post like they're new to forum life.

As for mods, I would agree with Luc in saying we have enough. Though some of them seem to be inactive, perhaps they just don't post as regularly as others. I know I come here nearly every day, yet I usually don't post in more than 10% of the topics I read. It is likely these seemingly "inactive" mods are lurking around, keeping order when necessary. Besides, Skyone is on quite a bit and will be able to maintain order quite nicely I believe.

i still stand by my original view

people seem to get very worked up over spam, just ignore and it gets deleted. Ranting and shouting leads to feuds and other nasty-ness

however i do agree with some of the other ideas liek changind the name of the atari forum and more in-depth basic "noob" diagrams as it was put

NOTE TO ALL: Do not send me more messages now. I've gotten both PMs and Emails, and it's annoying. The cutoff came and went, and I gave you pleanty of time. 20 days. Now attend to the comments made and come to a single decision. You never know, if you put enough thought and logic into it, we might use it. But don't just post because you're a 12 year old kid who wants to be noticed. You will be put down, hard. We need intelligent conversation here, as that the rest of the board might hinge on this.

Actually, another thing that gets me is our lack of a battery/power-oriented forum. Some would argue that these questions should be allocated to the specific console, but with all of these questions popping up about "Is this battery good?", or "Will 'X' volts be able to power my 'X' system with 'X' battery?", it would be a good idea to keep them all in one place; that way we all know where to go for help, and where to help those in need. We've got a forum for all other specific aspects of portablization, batts shouldn't be left out. Or possibly, put it with case-making, seeing as it gets little traffic as is.

Also, where are we to direct our random console questions and portablization wills? Consoles such as the Neo-Geo, Odyssey, Colecovision, etc. really have no home, and I think we should give them one (or at least, possibly, even broaden the Atari forum to just pre-80's crash, and lump the Neo-Geo in with the other 16-bit systems...)

Well I think that's what stickies are for. We used to have the same problem when it came to those damn Nintnedo security bits. So we set up a stickies that addressed this questions. The same can be done for the battery issue. And also it needs to be made clear that N64 and the 128bit consoles are the confusing ones and hardest to make portable.

I'd say put the Odysey and Colecovision in the Atari section, and the Neo-Geo would likely fit best in eithe the SNES or the Sega forum. I'm also going to say this, there is really no need for individual forums for these systems. They're not talked about enough that they need one.

I have seen some good ideas here I have to say that i can agree on having a noob section but maybe restrict new members to it for a couple of weeks, Also a section about battery is a good idea too, change the name of the atari forum and combine a few other systems into more general forums, also about the flagging, maybe flag new members with "I'm a noob" for a couple of weeks after they have been released into the general forum system
