What are good mods? And what all can I do with modchips?

There are some GC modchips here. I know its the China one, vb_master said they have $5 shipping right now.
If you just want a system to put a modchip in, I think you could do a lot more with an xbox as far as running other stuff like linux and xbmc. Thats why I'm going to get a modchip for mine and possibly a bigger hard drive to save my games to.

Get XenoGC. All it does is boot games, but it does a great job of it and is incredibly cheap and simple to install.

If you're looking for functionality over bootability, get Qoob Pro. It's cheap and lets you customise your background and boot files from it's USB flash.

the viper GC extreme is a little expensive but has a ton of features. and you dont need a BBA, it comes with a usb adapter. i think you need one with the qoob though, right?

and where vskid suggested to buy one, is probably the best place, i broke one of the cables that connected my chip to the usb adapter, and there support took care of it very fast. and for free

Actually, I found Divineo to be the worst place. I ended up paying $70 for my chip, plus $45 shipping. When it arrived it was marked shipping payment on arrival, then I had customs on top of it. At the end of the whole thing I ended up paying Â£160 for a modchip I could have bought from Gamefreax.de for Â£70 with shipping. And their support did nothing about it, instead they deleted my account.

I'm never buying from Divineo again, and I'm not the first person to have problems like this with them ether.

If you live in Canada, they probably are your first choice since they're on your doorstep. If you don't, don't bother with them because they will rip you off and there's fat little you can do about it from across the pond. You're hardly going to take a Canadian company to court for ripping you off when buying a modchip are you?

Divineo China has $5 international shipping for orders under 1kg. I agree, Divineo Canada/USA has very expensive shipping and it took forever to get here! Buy it from Divineo China, you can't go wrong.

just thought id say this about the viper gc extreme, its got a new BIOS out now (actually it was kinda leaked) but it has some female of the dog species new features, like real time save states is one and you can activate some cheat codes through a usb connection during the gameplay

Oh. Dang, then I guess that uber-cool idea wouldn't work. Oh well. It'd be cool to have it so you could flip a switch and have it do that, like on a DS when you close it.

I bought my PS2 modchip from Mod-chip.com and I had a great experience, I would recommend them for your next purchase.

Aside from modchips, you could always overclock it or do the Japanese import mod.

i remember asking on these forums if you can overclock a GC and got a few people to say no
