Sound Editing.
Well, I'm doing a small YTMND, and I need a good sound extractor/editor. I have an audio file embedded in an AVI File, and I want to get it out. Then mix that with a tune of my own. Can you help me?

1. Get Audacity. http://audacity.sourceforge.net For sound, it's worth its weight in gold. (or 1s and 0s. 
)
2. Find the LAME MP3 encoder system and copy the .dll from it to the Audacity folder. (otherwise you are stuck with either Ogg, which is good but not widely used, and WAV, which makes huge files.)
3. Fire up Audacity. In the upper right corner of the window there should be a drop menu. Set it to "Stereo Mix". This will make Audacity record the audio that gets sent to your speakers.

4. Open your video in WiMP (media player). Disable the equalizer and the SRS WOW effects. Stop the movie and set the volume down to about half.
5. go back to Audacity and click the record button.
6. Back in media player, play the movie. Then switch back to Audacity. The recorded waveform shouldn't get "clipped" (fills the whole band), nor should it be too quiet. Adjust the volume in media player as necessary to make the waveform fill the bar about 75%.
7. Stop Audacity's recording and stop media player. Be sure that you leave the volume where it is now. In Audacity, click the "[x]" button on the left of the recording bar, near the top. This will delete that track.
8. Now the real recording starts. As before, click Record in Audacity, then Play in media player. When the movie is finished, stop Audacity and you will have a copy of the audio.
9. At this point, save your work as an Audacity Project file. That way you can extract audio from the recording at a later time and it won't already be compressed.
10. Edit the sound as you please. Just save a copy of the original if you want to use it again later. (At this point you can turn the EQ and SRS effects back on in WiMP.)
