I want to start getting into making movies and I need to know some stuff and items as to where I could make decent crappy movie?

1. What's a good camera to use that's below $250? has to be digital

2. What is a good movie editing program?

3. What are some easy movie ideas you would all like to see?

Well, woot.com has a camera on sale today. If you haven't heard of it before, it's a site with one deal each day... a new deal comes at 12:00AM CST. From now until tomorrow night, you can get a decent looking camera for $204.99 shipped. I would recommend checking out some reviews first, if possible.

Adobe Premiere is what all the professionals use...

Premiere Pro is sweet, its not that difficult to do basic things too. Plus there are tutorials. BUT it is expensive. If you are just starting out just try out Windows Movie Editor. Basic fundamentals of movie making. The features are just really general and most movie makers will know you used it.

try to get a movie called PRIMER its an amateur produciton and is really interesting uses good techniques.

Adobe Primiere Elements is only $100 and you can easily find a bundle that comes with Photoshop Elements (also cool). Windows Movie Maker..... no.

Also, I suggest Adobe After Effects for special effects and compositing and whatnot. Its a very cool program, but is $700 new. You can find older versions on eBay for ~$100. (Just an FYI AE 5.5 is the oldest you can use with XP.)

Great! Making movies is an awesome hobby!

As for the camera, the one I have is very cheap on ebay. It's called the Sony DCR-TRV 19. It's not a pro camera, but it's very nice. It can shoot in widescreen, and it has a firewire port. It takes MiniDV tapes.

Program... Hm. I use Adobe Premiere Pro, but that's very expensive. Adobe Premiere Elements is apparently good but I've never used it.

Well, you can't make a movie without making a Star Wars spoof. But you can do whatever you want! I get inspiration from my day. If something funny of ironic happens, make a movie about it!


So, last words, remember DO NOT GET A DVD CAMERA. As cool as it may seem, it's not. You think you can take the DVD, put it in your computer and you're good to go but NO. It's not possible to get the video on the computer. Get a MiniDV camera. Other than that, just get what suits your needs. Make sure it has a firewire or a USB port. Firewire is way better though. And if you don't have firewire ports on your computer, get a firewire card thing... I don't know what it's called. But it's really easy to intsall. I did mine when I was 12!

I don't know much about movie making, I'm too poor to get a good editing program, and windows movie maker sucks. Thats all I know, and my friend makes Star Wars fan films and he uses the trial of Adobe After Effects (because he's poor too) to do his lightsaber and other effects.

As far as cameras are conserned get a DV camcorder. If you have a firewire port on your coputer you can just download the video right to your hard drive. I can tell you from experiance that recording video throught a capture card off tape is really going be be a pain in the neck. Not to mention that DV and pretty much all digital camcorders are offering better resolutions then analoge tape ever could.

As for the program Adobe sounds like it's a safe bet. If you have a Mac you can go with either iMovie (read it's pretty good) or Final Cut Pro (Best program under $1000).

Oh one more thing the camcorder needs to have Microphone input. That's very important.

On the programs I'll have to search a bit more. I don't have time now.

As for the movie we're going to do a zomedy (comedic zombie movie).

Maybe it'll get done next year who knows.

here's the number one way to make a film independently without it sucking.

Get a non-digital camera, preferably 8mm (Super 8 will do)

Get a boom mic and equipment

write a script and screenplay for the movie

film the movie

edit with equipment at your local public television studio

that is how you make a movie that can be played on something besides Youtube.

If you're intent on a digital recorder, just be careful. I've known a lot of people who were promised crisp quality only to recieve distorted, fuzzy images on tape. Just be sure to read a lot of reviews before you buy anything.

At my house we used to have a movie editor called Movie Maker. It had some basic tools plus some basic special effects stuff. I haven't used it in forever, though, so you may have to do some research to see if it's still up to par now.

I assume you mean analog? Because a film video camera is a squillion dollars.
