Yeah, i was so happy with my iPod Video, i got a nano, and just 2 weeks ago, a Macbook

iPod is the best ever. Creative Zens are good too, but iPods rule the mp3 player world

iPods, and you can agree, are just flashy. They really aren't that feature filled. The only thing they have going for them is the case they're in.

$250 for a nano?! I mean, really.

My cousin bought a Toshiba Gigabeat. 30 GB of space at the same price as the 2 GB Nano.

Keeping in mind that there are sound systems that work exclusivly with the iPod, docking stations that let you output videos/photos to a TV, remote controls so you can have the iPod kept conceiled. Yep the iPod is only flash and no substaince.

If that were the fact I would have would the Creative Zen Xtra 60GB for the price I paid for my iPod Video 30GB. The thing is I can watch videos, download podcasts, photos, music off iTunes, and have ebooks saved on it as well. Yep my Video can't do anything compared to the Xtra.

Though your humble sarcasm did make sense, I don't think you're seeing what I said correctly.

I didn't say that the iPod didn't have support, because really, that's the main thing they have going for them. Podcasts? I mean, they're just MP3s. "Zencasts," now you don't see those flying around, do you? That's because it's hardly supported like the iPod is.

3rd party accessories and docks: If Crestron, Logitech and Griffin would support anything else besides the iPod, then it really wouldn't be that great.

The only thing I agree with in your post, Sparkfist, is the NTSC output on the iPod. Personally, I think that it's a great feature, and when I had an iPod, I used it more than anything else.

I find this weird:

iPod Nano 4gb: $250
iPod Video 30gb: $300

I think that the iPod Video was the first great iPod in its series. A Nano was just small and fast, for purely MP3 playing. The Video had a ton more going for itself, and was a great deal.

In my opinion, the iPod has more sales than other MP3 players (and now... video players) because it is very nice looking and is extremely simple, which obviously America is looking for.

Now before you guys attack me, I gotta admit that I have owned an iPod Nano 2gb (couldn't charge - within a week,) an iPod Nano 4gb (gave it to my brother and bought-) an iPod Video 30gb (busted hard drive within 2 weeks, returned it and got-) another Video 30gb to only sell on eBay. The iPod I gave to my brother broke a month after I gave it to him, and my sister has gone through four iPod Colors, mainly because of hard drive problems and charging problems.

I persoanally would go with a flash stick reader mp3 player. They're cheap on Ditectron, tigerdirect, and newegg, you can always upgrade the memory, you can use any flash reader to update your songs so you don't need any new drivers, and most of the ones I've seen have been decently durable.

I don't want to start an iPod sucks flame war, but I would like to point out a few of the cons of owning one.
Pros:
Good customer service
Good warranty
iTunes, if you like it
High memory standard
Well known brand

Cons:
Many are still HDD based and are fragile
Nano is prone to screen cracking
Expensive
You have to use itunes or CD's, and not any other mp3 download sites (Though I know there are ways around this).

I feel that a lot of the hype about iPods is exactly that, hype. Right now, it's "cool" to own an iPod and a PSP.

Lets look at those two on what they are. Ipod Nano 4GB is a flash ram based player. Flash ram is still expensive and so you're not going to get the room you can with say a hard drive. Also keep in mind it has a color screen and so that adds to the price, that is vs the shufle, but I believe it's cheaper then the mini was when it was released. The iPod Video, it's hard drive based and as I said hard drives are cheaper to make.

I've said to many people, if you want an iPod to have when you work-out/run/bike/ect. a Nano (or shuffle) is really the best one. If you're just going to have it as the MP3 player in your car, something for when you're waiting in line, watching videos, or things like that, go with the Video. You have trade-offs with the iPod models just like you have trade-offs when you compare iPod (in general) to say Creative, iRiver, SanDisk, ect.

Really comparing prices without comparing fetures is like comparing a 25" TV to a 30" HDTV. The HDTV is going to cost more, but with it you get more then the basic TV has to offer.

Really? I was under the impression that the Nano's were HD based, my mistake.

Holy crap, yeah. I saw a video of a guy putting his iBook (with the white clear plastic case) on dry wall screws and moving the iBook around all over them. You would have expected loads of scratches, but there wasn't a single scratch on it.

Well, the Nano screen gets scratches. But that's just if you don't take care if it. Don't just let it slide around in your pocket... get a sleeve (or "sock" for it)

I've had my 3rd Gen 20 GB iPod for over two years now, and it looks about the same as my friend's 3G 15 GB iPod did when it was 3 months old. I used a case, he didn't.

Simply put, if you get a case (or just use the case that came with it, like I did), your iPod will look better.

Also, if you wipe your earbuds and cord down with rubbing alcohol every once in awhile, you can restore the original white shine to them. Simple as thatâ€¦

that ibook had something called invisishield on it or something like that, i saw it on gizmodo, without that stuff it would have been scratched to heck
