If i do the Tsop flash, will HDD swaping be as simple as formatting my new one and swapping thm out? because if not, I think I'll just do the simple softmod first and see how I like it, and then do the Tsop flash later.

I can't answer your question, but vb_master is a great help for xbox mods, I've been talking to him on msn and aim, and he is a great help. I likely wouldn't even be planning to modchip my xbox if I didn't have him to help me.

EDIT: W00t, 1k posts!

TSOP is almost the same as having a modchip on your xbox...

modchips for xbox works by flashing a custom bios to they own tsop... those bios can be flashed to the xbox onboard tsop... so... swap hdd is easy like plug, format, play... also... the hdd dont need to be locked to work. for softmod the hdd will alway need to be locked... and whit a hdd locked if the mobo fail it will be really hard to restore your hdd

You don't even need to format! Just pop in an UnleashX CD, it will recognize a new install, and format the drive. Just remember to backup your other HDD with the same UnleashX CD.

As for modchips, I just flashed to a customized version of X2 4981.06 with no animation and a blue logo and orange LED with no worries.

for installer i recomend you to use Auto Installer Deluxe 3... this is the most complete installer... it will do all the work of preparing your hdd

I was basically saying that there is no need to format with a computer, just use an UnleashX disc to format. Sorry for the confusion!
