Zenith PSONE Screen Power Issues

I will try to make this question as clear and simple as I can. I don't think this problem is a big one but I don't want to start connecting wires that might ruin my screen before I pick your expert brains :-P...

I have a gamecube 5" lcd screen (same as PSONE + few small changes etc etc).

So far I have removed the included voltage regulator from the base, and the screen from its casing. I wasn't given an AC adapter with the screen, only 12v car adapter. I managed to scavenge around and found a 7.5 volt 1 amp netgear AC->DC adapter for an old hub I had sitting around. I checked the volatage and it was outputting about 12v so I decided to run it through the regulator circuit I had scavenged from the screen. I tested the output to make sure the regulator was doing its job, and sure enough I got about 7.6 volts out.

The connections are as follows, positive and negative input to the regulator are from the wall adapter. The positive and negative output from the regulator are the only output wires used right now and are hooked to the input wires of the same color on the screen (I left them connected to the screen and just twisted them together with the same colored output wires from regulator). I have disconnected the speakers and headphone connections. The only connections to the screen are the red and black positive and negative coming from the regulator.

I power up the screen (flipping the switch hooked to the regulator complete with status led). The led turns on, the screen flickers, flashes white for a moment, and then seems to return to an unpowered state. I am assuming nothing is broken and that I am just missing a certian connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a TON in advance!!

p.s.
This screen is a for a digital picure frame so the sound features are not needed. I read about a couple fixes for this type of situation but am not sure I am getting the exact diagnosis right for whats happening.

Hmmm, try hooking the power to the spot labeled "7.5 V" near the bottom of the board, and then connect the ground (black wire) to where you already were. That might fix your problem.

Also, are you getting anything when you press the brightness/volume adjust buttons?

Rock on for making a digital picture frame! Have you seen my instructables project on that yet?

I changed the connection for 7.5v from the existing connection to the pad marked 7.5v on the board. After switching the regulator on I got the same results: Screen/backlights flashed white for less than a second and then back to black, no backlight on, contrast/brightness buttons do not display anything either...

I have also tried the 5v input fix that some psone screens need, along with connecting all the headphone wires together (no sound needed).

I check the voltage again and it seems to be around 7.2 volts coming out of the regulator to the screen, is this too low? shouldn't the regulator provide the proper voltage? i'm giving it at least 11v in...

EDIT: Yeah joedog I saw your guide on the instructables site a while back, thanks for the inspiration, hopefully i'll have something after another week of tinkering :-P

Well, if you can't find anything else wrong with the screen, try just powering it off of 5 or 6 AA batteries for testing purposes. If you still have the same problem, then it's not because of your power supply.

So I figured the regulator might not be providing the screen with enough juice from the 7.5V 1A adapter... I just tried hooking the adapter output to the screen input, bypassing the regulator circuit and VOILA! It worked, brightness controls worked and displayed on the screen etc etc.

However I'm guessing this fix is only temporary as the 11v the adapter actually provides seems to be a bit dangerious to the screen from what I've read...(why do they even rate these things? 7.5v = 11v?!).

Any suggestions on lowering the voltage, just a simple circuit perhaps, resistor or two?

This question is aimed at joedog again....

I have everything running, sandisk, screen, etc...

Think it's possible to power up the whole assembly with the sandisk remote... I.E. attach the screen's power to a place on the sandisk board where the power is activated when remote is used?

I'll let you know if I come up with a solution :-P

As for dropping voltage, you're going to need a 7808 voltage regulator. Read up on those and see if that'll work for you.

I like the remote idea, if it's possible. I can't believe I never even tried that idea.
