PS2 XBOX GC rumble powered in same manner?

Post by MasamuneX »

Hello everyone, I'm sure some of you are familiar with the XShox controller mod. If not then have a look http://www.xbox-modchips.com/tutorials/xshok.htm . On that site it says the Xbox controller is powered in 5V pulses. I tested a Ps2 controller and the electronic pulses varied. I'm not sure if it is because the signals are triggered on and off so quickly that my multimeter cannot register its values. I have also tested my Madcatz MC2 universal steering wheel and its rumble pulses were similar with those of the ps2 controller. So my question is does anyone know if they are similar in the way in which their rumble motors are powered? Thanks for any input.

Multimeters are kinda slow, so you might want to test it on a part of a game that rumbles almost continually to get an accurate reading.

If you have one, an analog multimeter will update much faster than a digital one. I suggest using clips to secure the probes to the contacts (because if you don't, moving your hands slightly could change the resistance and cause the readings to change).

So, I have found that the two rumble motors in my Madcatz mc2 used two different voltages as well as the way in which they rumble. While crashing and driving straight against walls in Tokyo Extreme 3 I measured the right hand motor to deliver 1v during constant rumble. The left hand motor which was the more violent of the two motors deliver 2.5v to almost 3v at what seemed to be constant rumble. My ps2 uses LaunchElf 3.41 to launch programs so if anyone knows of a type of program that will allow to me to further test my findings I will look further into it.
