I have tried by I cant find many resources on Solar energy, but harnessing it ina battery, or something. And on a non commercial version. Any info would be great.

Solar cells are similar to batteries, except instead of the flow of electricity being produced by chemical reactions, light energy is converted instead. As a result of this, the power is less stable (if the sun goes behind a cloud, the voltage drops). Other than that, it's pretty simple. The standard cell produces .5v, but larger ones can produce more amps than smaller ones (same as with batteries).
If you want to use them to charge batteries, it depends on the batteries. For Ni-Cds, just put about 1.75v through the battery backwards (but don't use cells that can produce a lot of amps because you might charge them too fast, and they could explode). For Ni-MH batteries, it's a little more complex, and for Li-Ions, you'd be better off finding a premade charger that takes in DC voltage, and constructing a cell that will produce the correct voltage to power it.
