personally, i think if the camera was exposed to enough chlorine gas for it to get inside and condense, then whoever was holding the camera would be very dead right now.

Sounds like the CCD (the part that turns the light into color values) is ruined. There's nothing you can do to fix it. Either work until you can buy a new one, or own up.

Why did you use it without permission in the first place? Duh.

If he does beat you and throw you out of the house, you have bigger problems than a broken camera. If that does really happen and you're underage you can most likely call child services or the police for domestic abuse. (I don't think it applies just to spouses.)

In short..
The camera's shot. There isn't anything you can do about it.

I suggest you buy running shoes, so you can run when the crap hits the fan.

Nah, it's probably the LCD, he said some pictures he had taken before the incident were blue and fuzzy as well. Can you still transfer pictures? See if they turn out okay when they're transferred on to your computer.

EDIT: Oh, wait, didnt read his post right. You're right.
Sandman, all you can do is make your dad think it is somehow his fault. Like make him drop the camera or something, then when he turns it on, he'll be like $#*!

I would do the same thing if I was his dad too.

I've had things happen like this to me before (not this serious, but still mistakes that were my fault), and I hate to tell you this, but parents will usually react better if you approach them about it and are genuinely sorry.

Following the other members' advice about just trying to hide the evidence and keep from getting blamed will likely only delay the time until your dad finds out. From past experiences, they always ask the same thing (in addition to wondering why you broke it) which is why you didn't tell them before this.

My advice would be to wait until he's in a good mood and then approach him about it. Of course, I don't know your dad and how he reacts, so use your best judgment on whether you should take my advice or not. One thing is pretty much certain, though: parents almost always find out.

I would also try checking if there's a recall on the camera. We got lucky when our video camera's CCD died, because Canon was fixing them for free (they'd used faulty CCDs in them to begin with).

Like Bic said, If your dad would really "beat you down and throw you out of the house", just let him do it. Your first destination should then be the cops. They'll set him straight.

Don't forget to tell him that you're going to be the one getting him into a nice retirement home, and if he keeps treating you like this, tell him he's on his own come age 18.
