laserdisc players were manufactured up untill 2001 in japan, the newer japanese models have nearly dvd quality video and superior audio (uncompressed i think) you will get worse video the older your player is and depending on the age and quality of the disc.

A laserdisk and player briefly passed through my (i say my, i mean my household  ) possesion.

The disk were huge but also the player also played regular music CD's in the indent in the middle

I think it was being fixed for someone or something so i didnt hang around for long

Laserdiscs were DA BOMB. I remember watching many a movie on them in the 90's. Sure, everybody has a DVD player these days, but TRUE geeks in the day had laserdiscs (except me because I wasn't that big of a videophile)

You know, granted they're a composite signal recorded digitally, but still, there's no compression, so in some cases they could look better than compressed-to-hell DVD's.

I actually own 2 LD's, Casablanca and Raiders. Wonder where they are? Did I give them away?

Wow, the good old days of watching Die Hard 2 and True Lies on LD... Where have they gone?

Yeah, my science teacher from a few years back owned a LaserDisc player on which he showed us some corny science movie and Monty Python  . Y'know, I sense someone will make an LDp sometime, granted they don't mind not attaining "full" portability!

you load are bonkers. LaserDiscs are definitely a better representation of video than a DVD or VHS. The best medium audiowise at least.

It's definitely the best audio-wise, as everything is completely uncompressed, the video quality is definitely better than VHS but not quite up to par with DVD, obviously. (As long as the DVD mastering is done decently at a reasonable bitrate.)

vb_master, that one picture was funnier than all of atari's combined.

And atari, just because you are here doesnt mean you need to post, especially if you dont have anything to contribute except for a stupid picture that you wasted 15 minutes in photoshop on.

Just look at me for example, i've been here since February and only have 180 posts.
