Sony PSP VS. Nintendo DS!

I'm gonna be rooting for Nintendo here, it's always nice to see innovation. Sony seems to just be recycling it's PS2 architecture so that PS2 owners will buy what they already own...

Also, does anybody remember when the GameBoy killed off the GameGear? Did it have better games, a butter screen, or a back light? No. It won because it was affordable and the batteries lasted much longer saving time and money in the long run, something that Sony seems to have forgotten here.

The ds has a ton of extra features like wireless connectivity. The ds will definitleyy win. I gotta say I'll probably get both though.

As much as I'd like to see Nintendo be nominated in the handheld market, I think the PSP is just a bit too big. Heck, I heard that you need a battery tied around your wrist to give it enough power

Oh have you hurd that sony has not yet set developers the dev kits for the psp?
and nintendos hype came from the developers praseing the devconsole

DS all the way. Although the psp seems nice, my ps2p should be done before it's released, and then I don't even have to rebuy any of my favorite games. Also, the psp doesn't have enough room to hold it easily.
Also, although the dual screen feature is mainly a novelty, I think for certain games it would be great, especially for rpgs.

I've been suspiciuos of the PSP from the first time I heard Sony's plaaninig it. Its also poorly made, dont you think when they designed this can can put the analoge stick(s) in a more convenitant place.

At least with the DS Nintendo is going into an area outside their main console. They even said the DS' games will not be playable on the next gen console.

Depends on how many people buy the DS(or whatever it will be called).
I just hope Nintendo doesn't kill the launch lineup and make mediocre games.

Thew Psp sounds like it will be so hot in your hand it will melt them.
The main thing I don't like about the PSP is that it only has a very small battery life, even for using it just for Mp3s.
I wonder if the PSp could be modded to emulate.......

also the psp has a plasma screen, lol a freaken PLASMA SCREEN
IT Has a Shelf life!, (you could put it in a box and never play it, it will still die the same time as if you did.)... you wont see these things for resale just in the garbage....

Are you talking about the high resolution, backlit, 16:9, big screen?
It is stil an LCD.
Plasma Screens have like a gas or something. Plasmas have Burn in too.
I wonder if Sony has the Rechargeable battery thing taken cared of....
Like the I-pod it could end up in the trash a year later.

This is tough. Both systems seem to have very different strengths and weaknesses. At first I was leaning towards the PSP as it has a huge screen great specs, and it looks cool. But then I began to look closer and many things about the system just seemed poorly planed. First of all sony has been working so hard to make this thing be the playstation on the go i think they have completely lost sight of all origionaity in their game lineup. All their launch titles look like cheap attemps to capatilive on PS2 franchises. Secondly like everyone else before me has said the battery life on this thing is not going to be pretty. Sony has said that the battery will last for around 3 hours which is BAD, esspecially if your on a long flight or car trip where you will be away froma charger for a long time. But even with these short coomings the Psp still looked good the game lineup although not origianl seemed decent , and the other features(mp3, movies) looked good but then you remeber that sony is useing their UMD disks meaning you will have to rebuy all of you movies, and that actually there will be on mp3 capability and suddenly things aren't looking too grand for Sony.

So now lets look at the DS. the first thing that comes to mind is the overal look and appeal of the DS and I ain't going to lie to you this thing is ugly. But lets look deaper into the guts of the beast. Again not great but a large leap from the dated graphics of the GBA. The DS sure does pay for battery life, with graphics nearly a generation behinds that of the psp's. But hey its the games right? While the DS doesn't have quite the 3rd party support of the Ds it does have reasonable support, and besides
its the Nintendo games nintendo fans care about . But for all the preaching Nintendo is doing about inovation their game lineup is still full of N64 ports. Both systems really need originall games, but as it is now Id rather have PS2 games on the go than N64. Still there are many possabilities for the dual screens, and touch screen not to mention the lower price and better battery life so for now now I cast my vote for the DS, but only time will tell.
